This Week:

Sunday, 5/16/16 11:30am-12:30pm PTA Raffle Basket Making! (Bring all of the donations you have gotten and anything you want to contribute. We are aiming to have enough materials to make 10 baskets! Help us meet that goal!

Tuesday 5/17/16 12pm- Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake comes to LMCJS!

The Mayor is going to speak about the importance studying and working hard and making good choices. She will also be talking about summer reading. At the end of the program the girls will be getting their summer reading book, “Rules” which was purchased for them by Christ Child’s Society. In addition, Christ Child Society is going to be providing each scholar the choice of and additional book as part of a challenge to our scholars to be a “book ambassador” where they read a book to a family member.

Wednesday 5/18/16 SCHOLAR LED CONFERENCES! 100% Participation is our GOAL!

Friday 5/20/16- Mother/Daughter Paint Night!!! 4:30 games for scholars, 5:30 Dinner, 6:30 Paint Time! $5 per person.

Moms! If you are looking for a night out with your scholar, enjoying dinner with Pizza, Salad, fresh fruits and veggies, Paint Night is for you! We will be keeping the scholars entertained after school by playing games from 4:30-5:30pm to allow our mothers to get here from work. From 5:30-6:30pm we will bee serving dinner in the cafeteria. At 6:30- Paint Night begins!

Our very own Art Teacher, Ms. Williams will be leading the paint night session, where we will be painting a Spring Scene. All materials are included in your admission price of $5 per person. Finally, at the end of the night, there will be a raffle to give away mother/daughter baskets! Every person entering will receive a raffle ticket- drawing will be held at the end of the night, you must be present to win!

PTA needs YOU! Our next meeting will be Tuesday 5/24/16 from 5:30-6:30pm.

Our PTA has been doing a phenomenal job so far this year, planning events and fundraisers that have enhanced the community atmosphere here at LMJCS. We are looking for more participation as we go into the end of the year, especially in planning our end of the year gala! Men, we really need your input, too!

LMCJS STAFF- If you would like to be a part of the PTA, come see what it's all about! We need more T's in the PTA. Meetings are only once a month. Thank you for your consideration!

State Testing Continues (PARCC)

Our standardized testing cycle continues next week.Please be mindful of your scholar's bedtimes and on-time arrival at school. Thank you!

We are now recruiting for Scholar Ambassadors for the 2016-2017 School Year!

The Scholar Ambassador Program at LMCJS is looking to give all of our scholars a chance to apply for the honor of the position.

Requirements are:

  • Fill out an application
  • Get a letter of recommendation from an adult (not your parent!)
  • Write an essay about why you want to be an ambassador and what you can bring to the table (site examples of times you were your sister's keeper, or any time outside of school where you have had a leadership position or how you desire to be a leader and the SA program and teach you how, etc.)
  • Interview with Mrs. Sparkman and Ms. Lester

Additional Consideration will be given to:

  • Attendance (tardys and unexcused absences)
  • Uniform Infractions
  • Habits of Mind Grade
  • Negative Jumprope Comments
  • Missing Assignments
  • Overall Grades (must have an average of all grades 2.3 or better!)

Greening of LMCJS

Ms. Doran and Mrs. Sparkman are working together to form a comprehensive plan to help LMCJS to reduce waste and teach our scholars the value of preserving our planet and its VERY limited resources.

Please stay tuned as your scholars come home with new initiative and plans to implement a plan of their own at home. Let's support them in their efforts to be an active citizen!

School Store

Our Next School Store Opening will be Thursday June 2, 2016. At this sale, we will be offering a discount on any uniform items that are from our previous uniform vendor. There will be very limited sizes included in this sale, we will be offering more skirts than any other article of clothing. Stay tuned later on this month on the sizes that will be included in the sale. FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED!
