Letter from Principal Nelson

Next week, May 7th through the 11th, is Teacher Appreciation week here in AISD and we are kick starting the celebration by having a catered luncheon for our teachers today provided by our spectacular PTA. This being May 4th, the theme for the luncheon is all things Star Wars, including Princess Leia inspired cupcakes and having lunch delivered from the most popular Tex Mex restaurant in Austin named after a Star Wars character: Chuy’s.

You’re welcome for that! Please help show your student’s teacher how much you appreciate them all next week in whichever manner you deem best. Teaching is a tough gig, and the rewards are minimal, but the impact they make in the lives of our students are maximum.

To note, we also have a fine team of permanent subs who are here each and every day, with no clue what they’re getting in to at times, that are just as important to the success of your student as our full-time staff. To find out more about these flexible professionals, send me or Mrs. Sustaita ( an email.

Carnival Tickets are LIVE!

This year marks our 3rd Annual Community Carnival and it promises to be better than the other 2 combined! We’ve upped the booths, increased the amount of rides, and even came up with a cool, albeit wet, theme this time around: Cougar Splashfest 2018!!! We talked to kids to see what it is they wanted, and all were in favor of water slides, water balloon battles, and an inflatable Hawaiian Slip n’ Slide! If getting wet isn’t your cup o’ tea, not to worry, there will still be plenty of traditional (dry) ways to entertain you and your student. Look for more details as to how you can participate, buy tickets, or even bid on items in our online Silent Auction in this newsletter. If you want to help, and we sure hope you do, please email our campus manager, Jennifer Newell (

Have a fun, and dry weekend!
