The Gold Rush
In 1849 people started to move to California to find gold. This was the strart of the California Gold Rush.
Mostly men were in the Gold Rush.
Only 2% of miners were women.
How did the Gold Rush effect California?
Most of the mining started in San Fransico. In 1852 there was a total of 18 million dollars worth of gold found. This was the peak of the Gold Rush. This boosted California's economy, and made more people want to live there.
Facts
Gold was a symbol of wealth, and is an expensive metal.
James Wilson Marshal was the man who first found gold.
Finding gold and becoming rich was so important that people would leave everything behind to move to California.
