Message From the Principal

Dear Parents, Students and Community Members,

I hope the holiday season has treated everyone well. Happy New Year! I'm excited we are back in the swing of things here at Parkdale Elementary School. It has been fun to hear stories from students as they return to school.

This month's newsletter includes information about a library grant we received, a free parenting class available, and information about state testing. Enjoy.

Sincerely,

Mr. Hedberg

State Testing Information

Students take an Oregon State Test in grades 3, 4, and 5 in the areas of English Language Arts and Math (and Science in grade 5). This testing will take place at our school

Oregon's State Tests:

  • Challenge your child to think critically and apply his or her knowledge to real-world problems
  • Go beyond multiple choice and ask your child to explain his or her answers
  • Act as a snapshot of your child's progress and may be considered along with other pieces of information to determine your child's academic success
  • Help identify schools and districts that need additional supports to ensure more students are meeting higher standards

House Bill 2655 permits parents to annually opt-out of Oregon's state-wide tests in English Language Arts and Math by submitting the official form to the school the student attends.

You can locate Oregon Department of Education's official Opt Out form from your school's front office or on our website at: http://www.hoodriver.k12.or.us/domain/1158. To best support our school in planning, please submit the form to the school office by Feb. 1, 2016.
