PICTURE DAY IS COMING! OCTOBER 10th
Attention Parents of 4, 5, and 6th-grade students:
Your child's 2022 PSSA scores will be coming home with your child on Thursday, October 13th. Please check your child’s school bag, for the sealed envelope containing your parent letter and your child’s 2022 PSSA scores. Keep in mind that this assessment is one snapshot and (at times) does not present the full picture of your child’s growth and/or academic progress. Any students who were in 6th grade last year will receive their results through U.S. Mail. Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher, if you do not receive your child’s PSSA information on Thursday, 10/13 (grades 4-6). Please note, any new students to GES this year, should receive their results in the mail from their previous school. Please contact your previous school if you do not receive your results by the end of this month.
2022-2023 Goodnoe Elementary Math Challenge Program

New this school year, Goodnoe students in grades K-6 are invited to participate in bi-weekly math problem-solving challenges. The Math Challenge program is completely free, and no sign-up is necessary. This is a great opportunity for families to be involved and enjoy math problem solving through fun and engaging math problems. Parents and siblings are encouraged to get involved in discussing and solving the problems. Please submit solutions to each math challenge by the due date listed (Wednesday evenings). Click on the link to learn more about the 2022-23 Goodnoe Elementary Math Challenge. The second Math Challenge is scheduled for release today. https://www.mathinaction.org/goodnoe-elementary.html
Reading Tidbits & Tips
Tip: Read together as often as you can! You can read about interesting current events in the newspaper in the morning at breakfast, share a story after dinner, or cuddle up with a book at bedtime. A daily reading routine is something everyone can look forward to. You can read together or children can read on their own. Research shows the amount of time children spend reading books significantly contributes to academic success as does reading to children. When you read to your children, including books they can not yet read on their own, you are creating wonderful opportunities for them to grow their vocabulary and thinking skills while enjoying quality time together.
Counselor's Corner
Happiness is…. Singing in a Choir
Joyful sounds filled the hallways of Goodnoe this week as our Goodnoe Singers (GOODS) began rehearsing. Our GOODS group is singers from the 5th and 6th grade preparing to perform in the Winter and Spring concerts this year. If your 5th or 6th grader missed the sign up and still wants to perform with the Goodnoe Singers, please email me at cmilliken@crsd.org.
Our entire school is proudly singing our patriotic music as we prepare to perform for our Veterans in our big Veteran’s Day Celebration this year! Here is the MUSIC so you can practice the with the whole family! Keep on Singing!!
Free Breakfast Program
A message went out from the school district this week with information about the free breakfast program. Council Rock will begin offering free breakfast to all enrolled students at the elementary and middle school levels starting Monday, October 3rd through the end of the 2022-2023 school year.
What you need to know:
- No sign-up is required.
- Daily breakfast menus will be available on our menus website.
- Students enter their lunch ID number and get breakfast in the cafeteria upon arrival at school.
- Breakfast will be pre-bagged and have an optional milk and fruit selection.
The protocol for GES will be that children may pick up the bagged breakfast in the cafeteria upon arrival to school on their way to their homeroom. Students will use their lunch ID when picking up the breakfast, and then they will eat in their homeroom. Issues may arise with disruptions to our morning classroom routines or creating excessive messes in classes. We will address items as we begin the program, and, if needed, we will have children remain in the cafeteria to eat their breakfast. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have questions.
OCTOBER LUNCH MENU & PRICING
The October lunch menu is available on the homepage of the GES website, and you can find it at the following LINK and pictured below.
To avoid confusion, please review the lunch options with your child each day. Don't hesitate to get in touch with the cafeteria manager at GESCafeteria@CRSD.org if you have any questions.

SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT
During the past few weeks, your child’s class has been reviewing the SW-PBIS (School Wide- Positive Behavior Interventions & Support) school expectations. The lessons included a class discussion, modeling and practicing of respectful, responsible, and safe behaviors in the locations listed on the school-wide matrix. Your child’s class also learned about the voice levels that are expected for the different locations. Please take some time to review the matrix and voice level chart with your child. Our school website has a SW-PBIS link with more specific information regarding the structure of Goodnoe’s School Wide Positive Interventions & Support system. Check out more information at the links below.
SAFETY DRILLS UPDATE
Within the first 60 days of school, we must conduct emergency drills within our building. These drills help us to practice what we should do in the event of an emergency.
The next safety drill that schools are asked to conduct is the Enhanced Lock Down drill. GES will practice the Enhanced Lock Down drill on Thursday, October 27th. More information will be shared soon.
Reminder: If you should report to the school during these drills you will not be able to enter the building. A sign will be posted on the outside door to communicate this. Most drills are fairly brief. We thank you, in advance, for your patience and understanding during this time.
REMINDER: SCHOOL ATTIRE POLICY
The Council Rock School District Board of School Directors has a policy in effect to monitor inappropriate attire. Students are reminded that extremely offensive and distracting styles of clothing (i.e., tank tops, muscle shirts, midriff tops, biking pants, excessively short skirts/shorts, etc.) are discouraged. Undergarments or bare skin at the mid-section or back should not be visible at any time. Also, clothing advertising drugs and alcohol products or clothing that conveys an inappropriate message is not permitted. If a child comes to school dressed inappropriately, he or she will be given two choices: To pick clothing from the nurse’s office or call a parent for a change of clothing. Please use discretion when choosing clothing. Thank you.
A Note from the School Nurse
This a reminder to all parents/guardians that elementary students are not able to self-carry ANY medication including cough drops among other over the counter cold/allergy remedies.
Please refer to the CRSD website/handbook which states:
Students MAY NOT CARRY any form of prescription or nonprescription “over-the-counter drugs” with them during school. This is a violation of District policy that will result in disciplinary action.

NEWTOWN MIDDLE SCHOOL CANNED FOOD DONATION DRIVE
Newtown Middle School is hosting a canned and non-perishable food drive. The goal is to help restock the local food pantries and shelters in Bucks County. But your help is needed. If one canned or non-perishable food item was donated from each student in the district, there would be over 10,000 items to provide to those in need in our community. Information on dates, times, and location is listed in the following LINK. Thank you in advance for your support!
