Need to see your counselor? There are now links on the counseling website so you can sign up to see your counselor instead of coming down to the counseling office to sign in. Go to the Counseling Staff page or sign in to see your counselor tab on our website.
General Information
- Course Selection for CURRENT Freshman, Sophomores and Juniors is January 22nd - February 7th.
- Seniors- ALL transcript requests for college, military and/or NCAA need to be done through Parchment. Please see Ms. Miller in the Go Center if you need help accessing your account.
- Update transcripts, GPA and ranking for Juniors and Seniors will be posted by January 20th.
- Community Scholar Ambassador Volunteer Hours- If you did any volunteer service hours this month, please submit your volunteer hours monthly and encourage other volunteers to do the same.

DUAL CREDIT 2020-2021
Current Sophomores and Juniors who are interested in taking Dual credit courses next year must attend one of the following mandatory meetings with a parent/guardian to find out if Dual is right for you:
*Juniors currently enrolled in Dual do not have to attend a mandatory meeting but do need to turn in a new commitment form for the 2020-21 school year*
Wednesday, January 15th, 6:45 PM (GHS Auditorium)

Monday, February 3rd, 6:00 PM (CHHS Auditorium)
*GHS and CHHS students can attend either mandatory meeting session regardless of home high school. Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow for check-in.
Dual Credit courses are taught on the high school campus by Tarrant County College instructors. They provide an opportunity for high school students to take college-level courses that simultaneously award high school and college credit.
Dual Credit Course Offerings will be shared at the Mandatory Meeting.
Note: Dual courses must have a minimum number of student requests in order to offer them during the 2020-21 school year.

This year students will be using Naviance, "a comprehensive college and career readiness solution that helps districts and schools align student strengths and interests to postsecondary goals, improving student outcomes and connecting learning to life."

- Naviance Overview video
- Explore the Search for Colleges tool
- Explore the Search for Careers tool
- Explore the Roadtrip Nation videos
- Complete the Strengths Explorer located in About Me → My Assessments → Strengths Explorer. Strengths Explorer is a strengths assessment that assesses 10 talent themes for individuals and identifies each student’s three strongest emerging talents. Upon completion, students will be provided with explanations of their top three themes and will learn how to capitalize on their success and discover what they need to do next to continue building on their strengths.
- Complete the Learning Styles Inventory located in About Me → My Assessments → Learning Styles Inventory. The Learning Styles Inventory assessment allows students to boost academic potential by recognizing their natural learning style, discover better learning strategies, and gain career development skills. The assessment provides students with a report that can be used to increase understanding of the student’s needs at school.

- You can build your resume in Naviance starting your freshman year? Besides academics, it includes sections from work experience to volunteering to music/artistic achievements. Go to the About Me section to start your resume today! ***Remember your login is your GCISD login (not your whole email address) and your password is "panthers" until you change it***
- Naviance isn’t just for seniors? Just like the Go Center, there are grade-appropriate activities and assessments for all high school students.

GCISD College & Career Newsletter
The GO CENTER is for all students, not just seniors, to obtain information and guidance regarding college, career, and scholarship opportunities. If you would like to schedule a time to meet with Ms. Miller please fill out the referral request form.
College Applications: Seniors! Have you submitted your college applications yet? The Go Center is available for appointments to assist you with your college process or answer any questions you might have. We are available before school, during lunch, and during your senior releases. Click here to sign-up for an appointment!
Scholarships:
Although many local scholarships are not open yet, we encourage you to begin checking the GCISD Scholarship website as this will be actively updated with new deadlines as soon as we receive them. If you have not obtained letters of recommendation, please request them now as most scholarships generally require a minimum of two letters.

TCC College Access Program:
If you have a possible interest in attending TCC after high school in the Fall of ’20, please know that TCC College Access facilitates the entire TCC registration process and is done here on campus. In order to participate and be included in this process, you must complete this interest form questionnaire that can be accessed through the following link:
Initial College Access meeting will be on October 22nd during your assigned period. You must complete the link above to participate.
JUNIORS: Now is the time to start signing up for the SAT/ACT. You can find a list of the registration deadlines and testing dates in the Go Center or on our website. Please come by the Go Center if you have questions or need assistance registering for a test.
We encourage you to come see us at the Go Center for any questions you may have regarding your post high school plans.

FAFSA Information
FAFSA https://fafsa.ed.gov/ - CHHS School Code: 441408
- Based on parental/guardian financial status
- Request your FSA ID now - takes 2-3 days for authorization.
- FAFSA - Opens Oct. 1 and should be completed as soon as possible
- 2020-2021 FAFSA application will use 2018 tax return
- FAFSA funds are distributed on a first come first serve basis
- Completion of the application takes approximately 20-30 minutes providing you have information necessary with you at the time of application including parents prior income tax return.
- Types of aid include: Scholarships, Grants, Work-Study, Loans-last option
SEAT TIME
Opportunities to earn seat time:
- Monday-Thursday in PREP from 4pm-6pm
- Any tutoring conducted outside of class hours - have teacher email Mrs. Gober
- Saturday January 18th - 8am-12pm in Learning Commons; you can earn 8 hours if you are there the entire time
- Why Try February 8th - see your counselor for an opportunity to earn 20 hours of seat time
The 2019-2020 CBE Fall Registration is now open for the Nov. 9th exam date.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS OCT. 9, 2019.

Community Service Ambassador Program
CSAP is coordinated on behalf of CHHS by the Volunteer Community Service Ambassador Committee with support from the CHHS Counseling Office. The program is designed to encourage all 9th-12th grade CHHS students to serve their community by performing at least 100 hours of approved community service. Students meeting this requirement will be recognized as Community Service Ambassadors upon graduation, and will be eligible to
purchase a special cord for their graduation robes. Full program guidelines for Community Service Ambassador Program, and service hour logs can be found on the CSAP Website.
Beginning November 12, 2018 each Class will have a specific email address to which their inquiries regarding CSAP should be sent. This email will be monitored by the Committee Member assigned to serve as liaison for the Class.

Weekend Food
All students who are current participants of the Free and Reduced Lunch Program are eligible to receive weekend food from the counseling office.
