Dake Junior High School
OCTOBER 2021 NEWSLETTER
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Greetings, Dake Families!
It is hard to believe that it is already October! As I reflect on the first few weeks of school, I cannot help but feel immense gratitude for our faculty and staff, students, and to you, our Dake families. We are thrilled to have all students back in the building. This was no small feat. A tremendous “thank you” goes out to everyone who helped make this happen. We know that we will be able to continue on this trajectory if we continue to follow our health and safety practices. One of these practices is to ensure that universal indoor masking is followed. This includes wearing masks properly over the nose and mouth. Thank you for continuing to support this district practice with your student when they are on campus and indoors.
We have engaged in work at the building level to align our year-long goals with the district’s Strategic Plan. This year, we are focusing on creating a welcoming and affirming environment for all students and families. This means that we will examine our building culture and climate, as well as our instructional practices to ensure that we are supporting all students. In addition to this, we will be analyzing various sets of data to inform next steps for instruction and response to intervention.
Our STEAM and Humanities periods are off to a great start. They began with community-building and lessons tied social-emotional learning. Our teachers are collaborating closely to ensure that lessons and content are relevant and engaging. Some of these classes have already re-grouped students based on need and upcoming units of study. We are excited for this opportunity to engage students in multi-disciplinary learning across the STEAM and Humanities content areas.
We are excited that fall sports are underway and that many of our clubs have held their informational meetings. Just a reminder that morning announcements are shared daily with students and include important information such as meeting announcements and general reminders. You can also view these on our Dake website under “Quick Links” and “Announcements”.
On behalf of the entire faculty and staff, thank you for your continued support. Please don’t hesitate to reach out us if you have any questions. Stay well and take care.
Sincerely,
Maryanne Heiman
Dake Principal
