Tiera Caliente
The Tropical Lowlands
In the Andes the Tierra Caliente is lowest region spanning from Sea level to around 3,000 feet. The average temperature of the region ranges from 75 degrees to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Because of this region's climate only certain crops are able to be grown. The crops that are predominantly grown there are rice, bananas, and sugarcane.
One of the most unique aspects of this region are the Broadleaf evergreen forests (shown above). The region also contains diversity from rain forests to deserts.
Because of the temperature of the Tierra Caliente region most homes that are built are open. The structures are also stilted to help protect the people from the dangers of flooding.
