Blended Model Update
YEAH!!! We are so excited to welcome students back to our building and we can not wait to see each of their smiling faces again! Beginning on January 26, Washington Middle School will welcome students back to the building. For safety reasons, students who have chosen to return will have two days of in-person learning each week. Students will either have in person learning on Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday. All students will be learning virtually on Friday. Schedules with this information will be mailed Monday January 18th.
Every student will start the day by joining their same advisory class at 7:45 as they have all year. They will follow the same daily schedule (with new elective classes) as they have been using in full distance learning. Some students will be in person and others will be joining remotely. The in person learning will end at 1:10 for all in person students.
Schedule
Here is the Blended/ Virtual schedule for Washington students. Schedules and a letter stating what days your child is learning in person will be mailed home Monday January 18th.
What do we do after 1:00pm?
In some cases, it will benefit students to stay at school from 1:10 to 3:00 for quiet study time and access to our school’s robust wifi access to the internet. We have created an opportunity for a limited number of students to stay at Washington for Afternoon Learning Time. For safety reasons, students will stay in one dedicated learning space and practice social distancing during this time. Masks will be mandatory as they will be during the in person learning time.
Because of the need to practice strict social distancing, there will be a limited number of students participating in Washington Afternoon Learning Time. We estimate that there will be supervision and space for 10 students per grade level.
If you wish to request a placement in Afternoon Learning Time, you may call the Washington office at 920-663-9570. Your student will be reserved a place in the Afternoon Learning Time roster. If there are more requests than we can accommodate right away, a waiting list will be added to the roster.
How do I talk to my learner about blended learning?
Change is inevitable, yet sometimes difficult. Every time change occurs, we have the opportunity to strengthen the ability to be resilient. When children face big changes, they may need extra support in addressing their feelings, understanding and adjusting to change, and learning new strategies and skills to handle the changes. One way to provide extra support is to engage in discussions around Blended Learning. At Washington, we use a conversation tool called “Circle Up”, that provides a safe environment for students to ask questions and share their thoughts and feelings. Here are some ways to start a conversation at home with your learner to help prepare them for the transition back to blended learning.
