Principal News
Dear Spry families,
I hope you had a wonderful week and were able to enjoy the nice weather we had these last few days. A reminder, Wednesday, November 11, 2020 is Veteran’s Day. Veteran’s Day is a national holiday and all schools are closed. Veteran’s Day is a time to thank those who served or who are currently serving our country. To show our support, at Spry, students and staff are writing thank you cards to Veterans and active duty service members. If you know of a Veteran or active duty member, who would appreciate a thank you card, please complete the form below with the person’s name and address (you can provide more than one person), and we will mail them one. We will also be delivering cards to our local veterans organizations.
Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Jackie Saunders
Interim Principal

Dear Webster CSD Parents and Guardians,
I begin this letter with a note of gratitude to all of you. This year has been anything but typical and yes, we are seeing an increase in COVID cases each week. Even so, we have been able to prevent community spread so far in our buildings thanks to all of you working with your kids on the importance of masking, physical distancing, and washing our hands. Remember what I wrote in last week’s letter: Masks + Distance + Hands = Open Schools!!! Thank you for your continued diligence in helping all of us stay healthy.
While I’m thinking about things that are not typical during this pandemic, the upcoming holiday season comes to mind. I know that for many families, the holiday season involves travel, many times outside of New York State. While my family and I will not be traveling this year, I do want you to be aware of new travel guidelines that were announced by Governor Cuomo and went into effect earlier this week. You may find all of the details by visiting https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/covid-19-travel-advisory.
There was an announcement from the New York State Education Department yesterday that the January Regents exams are cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic. This cancellation includes all Regents examinations that had been scheduled for the January 2021 Regents examination period. No decisions have been made regarding the June and August 2021 administrations of Regents examinations or any of the other state assessment programs. You can read more by CLICKING HERE.
If you haven’t done so already, please take a minute to view a short video that explains all of the district’s daily cleaning protocols and additional cleaning steps we take when we have confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our buildings. As always, reach out to me should you have any concerns or questions.
On Thursday next week (November 12), I’ll be sending out a CHANGE FORM for those families who wish to change their learning model for the upcoming second semester. You don’t have to fill out this form unless you wish to change from 100% remote to hybrid (or vice versa). The change won’t go into effect until February 1 (beginning of the second semester), and you will have to commit to this model for the rest of the year. I am discouraging any changes unless absolutely necessary, and I will describe more about this when I contact you next Thursday.
Lastly, a few words about kindness and a wonderful day to celebrate just that -- World Kindness Day -- coming up on Friday, November 13 (which was already the greatest day of the year, by the way). Thanks to Webster Schroeder PTSA Chair Stacie Peters’ amazing ideas and the support of Webster Central PTSA and the Webster CSD Board of Education, our schools will be celebrating kindness. We’ll even be wearing cardigans like one of our favorite kind people, Mister Rogers, and sharing acts of kindness all week long. Look for more details on the district’s (Facebook, @WebsterCentralSchools and Twitter, @WCSDProud) and your schools’ social media platforms and newsletters.
Stay safe and healthy,
Carmen Gumina

News from the Board of education
sharing pictures making connections
As a part of our initiative to continue building on the positive culture and climate at Spry, we are looking for students to submit pictures of themselves with their pet or their favorite hobby. We will use these pictures to create a collage on a bulletin board that reminds us that even though we may be learning in separate spaces, we are still ONE Spry family.
Please encourage your child to submit a picture of themselves with either a pet or a favorite hobby. We would love to get a picture from as many students as possible! Students will be able to upload their pictures through Google Classroom.

Good Afternoon Partner in Positive Youth Development!
As the autumn leaves continue to fall, our programming starts to ratchet up available events for our youth. The next available event is the annual Intergenerational Fall Clean-up on Saturday, November 14th. In an effort to practice safe social distancing we will be welcoming groups of volunteers in different time slots beginning at 9am.
The annual Intergenerational Fall Clean-up is coming November 14th!
This is a great opportunity for youth to serve our community and gain needed service hours as we help housebound seniors rake leaves and clear their yards of fall debris. Groups are welcome to join and serve together, or meet new youth from around the community and work together helping those in need. We will meet at Monroe Community Hospital at 9 am and then go into the community to help our registered seniors. We will also provide a FREE shirt, refreshments, and the necessary tools for the job.
Have your youth register to volunteer at: tinyurl.com/MonroeCountyFallCleanUp
Please contact me if you have any questions by email at haliradecker@monroecounty.gov, or by phone at 753-6953. Thank you for your time and cooperation!

Chromebook policy prohibits loaners being given to students who forget their Chromebooks at home or do not charge the battery. Loaners are provided for students whose Chromebook is physically damaged, lost or not functioning properly. For those students with dead batteries, there are several chargers on site for their use, but they have to leave their Chromebook for at least two class periods to charge.
F.I.R.E.
Equity and diversity are catching F.I.R.E. in the Webster community!

Spearheaded by the school district, the group includes members from throughout our community -- parents, concerned family members, and allies passionate about One Webster!
Watch district social media for upcoming meeting notices. For further information on being a part of this growing organization, please contact Terry McCarthy, Webster CSD Director of Humanities, at terrance_mccarthy@webstercsd.org or (585) 216-0080.
Together we can help Webster blaze a trail in creating a more equitable and inclusive community!
F.I.R.E. meetings for 2020-21. These will occur virtually.
Here is the schedule -

Early Dismissal
• If you need to leave school early, an email (Preferably) from your parent or guardian must be sent to your house office prior to first period. Notes are still allowed, but discouraged to avoid crowding in the House Offices to start the day. You will be given a formal "school excuse" to leave, and your parent must sign you out at the front entrance.
• If you return to school, you must report back to the front entrance and get a pass to class.
• Only the School Nurse can excuse a student early from school due to illness. Students leaving school because of illness must be picked up from the Main Entrance by a parent or guardian.
• No one is allowed to leave during the school day without signing “out”. Any pupil leaving without permission will be considered truant. Parents and Police will be notified.
• Transportation to and from school is provided by school bus, parent, or guardian listed in Infinite Campus ONLY.
