Testing Skills with Digital Animation
Half Day fifth-graders were tasked with creating a GIF using the website, Scroobly. To create a GIF, students followed multi-part instructions to design a character from scratch and bring it to life using their bodies.
Scroobly is located on Half Day’s virtual makerspace, a space that excites students to create, build, design, and learn.
“The virtual makerspace fosters the development of highly in-demand 21st century skills,” said Library Media Specialist Becky Morgan. She added, “This activity specifically is an exercise in problem solving, perseverance, and above all, technology and media literacy. Technology and media literacy is the practice of using technology to navigate and create media. These skills are fundamental to being safe and successful in an increasingly digital world. When students are able to have fun in the classroom, they are more likely to seek learning opportunities outside of it. This is because they come to understand learning as a lifelong endeavor, not something that begins and ends with the school bell.”
Visit the school's Facebook page or the Google Doc Folder to see pictures of the activity.
ASAs Begin Next Week
After school activities get underway next week. Check your child's class and day it meets. Prompt parent pick up at 4:30 p.m. is required or 103 Club students registered for that day will return to the 103 Club after class. There is no bus transportation.
Reporting Student Absences
If your child or someone in your house is experiencing COVID like symptoms, please get a COVID test. It is imperative that students who are ill stay home so they do not infect anyone else at school.
Please provide the following information:
Student’s first name and last name
Child’s grade
Parent email and phone number
Child's symptoms
If your child tests positive for COVID, provide the date of the test and type of COVID test administered
An automated call will go out to parents who do not report an absence.
Reminders of Items for School
Please send your student to school with a charged iPad, extra masks, fillable water bottle, and snow gear labeled with child's name.

Requesting Vaccine Cards
If you have had your child fully vaccinated for COVID, please send us a copy of your child's vaccination card so it can be added to your D103 students' health records. At this time, fully vaccinated students are not required to quarantine if they are identified as a close contact as long as they remain asymptomatic. Students are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after the second dose was received. Students that show COVID 19 symptoms will still need a negative test prior to entering school regardless of vaccination status. You can track the percent of students vaccinated on our D103 COVID Dashboard.
Please use one of the following methods to provide us your child's vaccine card along with the student's first name, last name, and grade level: fax, email, mail, or physically dropping off a copy to the school.

Volunteers Needed for 5K Run Committee
The 2022 D103 PTO 5K is in jeopardy and we need your help!
The 5K event helps fund significant projects at our schools and is a much-loved springtime event in our community.
We are asking for your support to help us keep this event going. If you have previously attended and enjoyed the 5K, please consider volunteering for the core 5K committee (planning and organization).
5K Committee meetings are a fun way to participate in the PTO and give back to the schools.
And yes, you can volunteer to help out and still run at the event!
Please email 5k@d103pto.org if you are interested in helping out and we will reach out with more information.
