CD Bulletin
Dear Country Dale Families,
As some of you may have already talked about with your families, the month of February is designated as Black History Month. Some classrooms have been learning that Black History Month was created to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States. It honors all Black people from all periods of U.S. history, from the people first brought over from Africa before our country existed to Black Americans living in the United States today.
Black History Month is a chance for each of us to seize an opportunity. It is a chance for us to be inspired by the accomplishments and the convictions of our fellow Americans. It is an opportunity for us to treat those around us with fairness, equality, and kindness. It is an opportunity for us to realize that our country is great because it is a place where we all belong, a place where we all work together to be successful. This aligns so well with everything I envision for our school which is to be as inclusive and welcoming as possible.
Knowing that students may be reading or learning about Black History Month in school, I invite all families to have conversations with your children to help them understand the context of why it’s important to learn about the many African American leaders who helped shape our Country. For more information, the National Museum of African American History website is a great space for searching more Black History digital experiences for kids and adults.
Sincerely,
Shaunna LaPlant

TO SERVE OR NOT TO SERVE-THAT IS THE QUESTION
The debate of whether to serve chocolate milk continues to be a hot topic. For many years the 5th-grade students have been asked to research this controversial issue, and this year was no different. After weeks of research, creating thesis statements and thoroughly looking for the best evidence, the students presented their essays to parents and district administrators. Based on this year's research, chocolate milk will continue to be served at Country Dale Elementary School. However, new studies are coming out every year. Who knows what future years will hold? Please note that any student that is already attending Franklin Public Schools DOES NOT need to register for next school year as a new student. This includes students already in Preschool Speech, Early Childhood, and 4K. All parents/guardians will be required to review your student’s data during our summer Back-To-School Online Check-In process.
