Two Directions?

March 2015 has been a rough month for the One Direction fanbase, the Directioners. On March 17th, images showed up all over twitter that seemingly showed one of the band’s members, Zayn Malik, with a girl who was not his fiance. Zayn stomped on the rumors almost as soon as they started. The following day he angrily tweeted, “I’m 22 years old… I love a girl named Perrie Edwards. And there’s a lot of jealous f***s in this world I’m sorry for what it looks like x” Although it would seem that the story should end there, some fans just couldn’t let it go.

It was obvious that Zayn was taking the stress and pressure of fame harshly, but no one was expecting it when Zayn announced that he would be taking a break from the tour to go home and rest up. A statement from One Direction's management let everyone know that it would be okay, and that Zayn would just be missing the rest of the Asian leg of the tour. After a week of Zayn being gone, rumors started sprouting that he was looking for ways out of the contract. The fans wouldn’t believe it. They were only rumors… right?

Wrong. On Wednesday, March 28th, One Direction’s FaceBook page posted a statement. It started off sentimental, reflecting on the five years the whole band had been together. But then the bomb all the fans kind of knew was coming was dropped. Zayn was quitting the band. The devastating news left One Direction fans sobbing over the loss of one of the members. Luckily for Directioners, the four remaining bandmates, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson, said they would continue writing and releasing music together.

One would think that would be the end of it, but no. Over the past year, Zayn Malik has made close relations with R&B rapper/producer Naughty Boy. The two of them hung out and became good friends a few months before all of this mess started. Since being sad over Zayn’s decision is so last week, fans have turned to hate and anger towards not only Zayn but also Naughty Boy as it is rumored that he is trying to get Zayn to release his first solo single.

One word of advice, Naughty Boy… don’t try to cross the Directioners.

Girls Protest Sexist Dresscodes

Dress codes have been a controversial topic for a while now, but when girls in a school in London speak up with their opinions, its obvious it will be a heated conversation. The specifics about the girls who put up posters protesting unfair dress codes were spared, but an author in London saw the posters when she was visiting the school. The author- Rossalyn Warren- took a picture and posted it to her facebook page, receiving multiple appreciative comments.

The poster itself read: "’I'm sorry, can you see my shoulders?’ Men are never told that their arms, legs, or stomachs are a problems for other people. They are seen as human, and rarely seen as something there for your sexual exploits. We are thirteen through eighteen-year-old girls. If you are sexualizing us, YOU are the problem. Dress codes are perpetuating rape culture and oppressive objectification against young women."

The discussion of dress codes have been around for awhile, and it's time for this to end. For that to happen girls who are sick of having to follow outrageous dress codes (like no unnatural hair color and no shoulders showing!) need to stand up as one and fight for what they believe in.

We Love Mama Swift!

Taylor Swift is a worldwide popstar with a huge fanbase- the Swifties. Her most recent album release, 1989, has sold over 1.28 million copies, not including the sales of her hit singles from the album, Shake it Off, Blank Space, and Style. Her highly anticipated world tour kicks off on May 5th, 2015 in Japan and ends December 12th in Australia.

All seems to be going well for the 25 year old singer/songwriter, however on April 9th, 2015, Taylor posted a tumblr message that broke all the Swifties’ hearts. She titled the message “Just so you know…” and every fan continued reading, while holding their breath waiting for the bomb. The update continued with the devastating news that Taylor’s mom had been diagnosed with cancer. The specifics of her mother’s disease were not included, but it said that both her mom and herself wanted to let the fans know.

Now the Swifties are closer than ever and are supporting Taylor even more as she and her family go through such a rough time. The fans let Taylor know that whatever she needs to do to help get through this will be fine with them, even if it means canceling some tour dates. After all, Mama Swift comes first.

Just so you know…

Hey guys,

I’m writing to you with an update I wish I wasn’t giving you, but it’s important and I’m used to sharing important events in my life with you. Usually when things happen to me, I process them and then write music about how I feel, and you hear it much later. This is something my family and I thought you should know about now.

For Christmas this year, I asked my mom that one of her gifts to me be her going to the doctor to get screened for any health issues, just to ease some worries of mine. She agreed, and went in to get checked. There were no red flags and she felt perfectly fine, but she did it just to get me and my brother off her case about it.

The results came in, and I’m saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer. I’d like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she wanted you to know.

She wanted you to know because your parents may be too busy juggling everything they’ve got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle… Or peace of mind in knowing that they’re healthy and there’s nothing to worry about. She wanted you to know why she may not be at as many shows this tour. She’s got an important battle to fight.

Thank you for caring about my family so much that she would want me to share this information with you.

I hope and pray that you never get news like this.

Love you.

Taylor
