RTV6 Holds "Caucus" in South Grove Classroom

Mrs. Mann's 4th Grade Class participated in their own caucus!

Students in Mrs. Mann's 4th Grade class recently held a caucus to determine the most popular food among the class: pizza, cheeseburgers or chicken nuggets. The class learned a quick lesson in how the political caucuses in Iowa work from RTV6 reporter, Jason Fechner. After some persuasion, the class agreed upon pizza as the ultimate winner. Take a look at the photos and video below to view the class in action!

What will it take to win the Iowa Caucus and what will it mean for Indiana's primary?

"Parade of Patriotism" Held at Hornet Park

From Hornet Park Principal, Mrs. Erin Probus . . .

"CPT David Shanahan, US Army US-60M Blackhawk helicopter pilot with Operation Freedom's Sentinel, son of Hornet Park staff member, Kathy Weisenbach, and brother of Hornet Park staff member, Katie Stafford, has presented Hornet Park with an American flag from his active duty.

In efforts to try to find a way to begin to express our gratitude and appreciation of such a wonderful gesture and gift, we flipped the honor and appreciation back to CPT Shanahan and CPT Rebecca Gerard with a special indoor parade last Friday.

Please enjoy a video recap that Colleen Borgert, our home-school advisor, created reflecting the Parade of Patriotism from the event. You can see that this experience caused our students to direct their admiration towards these two real heroes.

Thanks so much to our military and their families - Land of the Free, because of the Brave!!!"

Local veterans (including Mr. Joe Prindle, pictured below with CPT Shanahan and CPT Gerard), parents, grandparents, School Board members, and community members, all came out to cheer for these heroes. The BGHS "SWARM" film crew was also on hand to video the event and interview CPT Shanahan. Also, Beech Grove Cub Scout Pack 108 served as the color guard and leaders for the parade.

Send Us Your Hornet Highlights!

We know there are many, many positive stories about Beech Grove City Schools involving our students, teachers, staff, and programs that we don't always hear. If you have a positive story to share, please send the details to Melody Stevens, Community Relations Director, at mstevens@bgcs.k12.in.us. We also encourage you to send stories that include personal achievements of your child such as: attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, performing in a community play, earning Girl Scout badges, serving as a volunteer in a non-profit organization, etc., etc. You might just see your story in a future edition of the "Hornet Blast" or in one of our local south side newspapers. We want to celebrate our Hornets!
