Mrs. Reiber's Apple Newsletter
April 2, 2018
Important Reminders
Welcome to the weekly newsletter! I am super excited to be the long-term substitute while Mrs. Reiber is on maternity leave. Her official return date is May 1st. Please read this letter each week to learn about important updates in our school and to find out what your child is learning about!
- There will be spelling, math, and reading homework this week. All assignments are due on Friday. Our spelling test will also be on Friday. Spelling homework is a bit different this week. There is no official spelling homework page to turn in, but please have your child practice using each spelling word correctly in a sentence.
- There is no school tomorrow April 2nd for Easter Sunday! We will be back in school Tuesday, April 3rd.
- Signed report card envelopes are due this Friday!
- The next online-only due date for Scholastic Book Orders is Friday, April 20th. The class code is NDJXN. Please order online through Scholastic Books.
Upcoming key dates:
- The 3rd grade field trip to the Akron Civic Theatre is on April 18th. I will announce our chaperones later this week on Class Dojo.
- AIR Testing is coming up for third grade. The AIR Reading tests will be on Friday, April 13 and Monday, April 16. The AIR Math test will be April 23rd and 24th.
Miss Yen
Special Awards
Congratulations to Daron for winning the VIP chair in our Class Dojo behavior system!
Daron was also our monthly Class Dojo winner! We had a 4 way tie between Billy, Kiera, Lawrence, and Ty for second place!
Happy Birthday!
We have no birthdays in our class this week.
What we are learning in Room 12...
If your child is going to be absent, please let me know in advance if possible, so I can send make-up work with them.
- Math - We are working on our fractions unit (Unit 5). Please have your child continue to practice multiplication and division facts at home!
- Reading - We are dedicating this week's reading time to focus on our newest writing unit and working on prepping for the AIR test coming up at the end of next week.
- Writing/Spelling - In writing, we will be starting to talk about opinion writing. Our focus this week is the difference between facts and opinions. Our spelling pattern for this week is homophones (two words that sound the same, but are spelled differently.) Please have your child practice using each word correctly in a sentence.
- Social Studies - We are currently working with Mrs. Kerscher learning about matter!
Link of the Week: Prodigy Math
I have programmed some AIR test prep material on Prodigy for the students to continue practicing at home. Let me know if anyone needs their login information.
