At the end of this quarter, SHS will NOT be having a specific "finals week" schedule. Instead, we will follow our normal weekly schedule.

Students might have a final or summative assessment during this week.

GERMAN UNITY DAY (TAG DER DEUTSCHEN EINHEIT)

I remember taking a trip to Berlin (my last trip there) in June of 1989. The Wall still stood, and I crossed into East Berlin through Checkpoint Charlie. Little did I know that in a mere five months after my trip, there would be Trabants flooding into West Berlin and the Wall would be a memory. Less than a year later the five states of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) voted to unify with West Germany and became the Germany we know today. German Unity Day (Tag der Deutschen Einheit) is the national holiday commemorating the reunification of the two Germanys and is celebrated each year on 3 October. On this big day, German inhabitants celebrate in festivals that offer various stages hosting live bands and stands selling food, drinks, and sweets around the Brandenburg Gate. Every year, a different German city hosts the national celebrations. Yet, Berlin always puts on a great big show “Burgerfest” that last for several days. What an amazing time to be in Berlin to celebrate such a world-altering event. Happy Unity Day Germany!!! Bis nächste Woche.
