RRHS - Message from LCPS
From Dr. Williams
Dear LCPS Families and Staff Members:
As Loudoun County Public Schools moves forward in meeting the evolving challenges and opportunities of our new environment, we strive to provide frequent information on topics of interest to families and staff members across the division. Following are updates on several important matters, including the FY21 School Board budget, Google Meet FAQs, CogAT test results and an information session for parents/guardians of students with disabilities.
School Board to Consider Ways to Reconcile FY21 Budget
Today the Loudoun County School Board will consider ways to reconcile the FY21 budget it adopted April 7 with the reduced funding now available from Loudoun County and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Based on anticipated shortfalls in future revenues, state and county changes created an estimated $73 million difference between the proposed LCPS 2020-2021 operating budget and the funding appropriated. The School Board must now adjust budgeted expenditures to the levels appropriated by the state and county in a process called budget reconciliation. This begins at today’s School Board meeting, when LCPS staff will present an information item with recommendations and options for reductions to the Fiscal Year 2021 Operating Budget. The School Board will hold a budget reconciliation work session with opportunity for public comment on May 12, prior to adoption of the revised budget in late May.
Google Meet FAQs for Parents
Google Meet is the official video meeting platform that LCPS teachers use when hosting synchronous meetings with students. In order to provide teachers maximum flexibility for teachers hosting Google Meets, LCPS recently updated the permissions for Google Meet for our users. The Department of Instruction published Frequently Asked Questions about the use of Google Meet and has posted to the Continuity of Education website.
Online Parent Information Session Thursday, April 30
Since April 8, LCPS special education team members have been reaching out to families to propose, finalize and begin implementing Temporary Distance Learning Plans (TDLPs). These plans are individualized to support students with disabilities participating in LCPS’ Continuity of Education Plan. While many of those plans are in place now, we know some parents and guardians may still have questions about the TDLP process, how we are collaborating with families to address their students’ needs and the support LCPS is providing for students with disabilities at the elementary and secondary levels.
To address those questions and others that you may have, we will host an Online Information Session for Parents of Students with Disabilities on Thursday, April 30, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Please register here for the session now.
Parents are invited to submit questions in advance using this form.
TDLPs and other important topics will also be discussed at the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) meeting on May 6, from 6 to 7:15 pm. Registration for the SEAC meeting will be available soon.
Spanish-language COVID-19 Text Messages from Loudoun County Government
Loudoun County residents can now sign up to receive text messages in Spanish regarding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
To opt in for this service, text LCCOVIDESP to 888777.
The county has launched the new service to provide an additional, easy-to-use way for members of our community who have Spanish as their primary language to receive information. Regular text messages published by Loudoun County will provide information about COVID-19 prevention and treatment, county programs and services to assist residents during the pandemic, key news updates and other timely and educational messages. Additional COVID-19 resources in Spanish are posted at loudoun.gov/COVIDespanol.
COVID-19 text alerts are also available in English for those who text “LCCOVID19” to 888777.
Hotline and Question Form Remain Available
As a reminder, LCPS has a COVID-19 hotline (571-252-6499) and a Frequently Asked Questions webpage where the latest information about the division’s response to the coronavirus is available. There’s also an online form where you can submit questions in writing at any time. Families are encouraged to use these resources to ask any questions you may have about the latest plans and activities across the division.
As a reminder, I encourage LCPS all students, parents and staff members to continue to adhere to CDC preventive measures and guidance. Even as encouraging news about the spread of COVID-19 emerges, it is important that we all follow this order to the fullest extent possible, limiting trips away from home to only essential outings as part of our community care initiative to prevent the further spread of the COVID-19 virus.
Please know that as superintendent of the Loudoun County Public Schools I care deeply about the health and well-being of students, staff members, their families, and the broader Loudoun community.
Sincerely,
Eric Williams, Ed.D.
Superintendent
