Principal Note
Meet the Teacher/Open House Parent Event
As a school, we know how important it is to safely welcome our parent community into the building to meet with teachers and see the learning spaces our children are in each day. This level of access allows parents to have the context necessary to ask purposeful questions and engage in meaningful conversations with students about their day.
Therefore, we are currently planning an event that invites parents into our school to meet your child’s teacher, see their classroom, see where they have lunch, etc. This event will be scheduled for either the week of September 13th or 20th. I will communicate specific information once dates/times are identified.
Also, by the end of the day on Monday, all parents should receive a video presentation from your child’s teacher or grade level team that shares important information about the classroom, the curriculum, and the year ahead. In addition, I will be sharing videos from all of our specials and specialists.
Safety Drills
On Wednesday all of our students participated in our required safety drills. First, our students participated in a lockdown drill, followed by an evacuation drill. The drills were attended by the STC Police Department and Fire Department respectively. Our students and staff received amazing feedback regarding the efficiency and organization of our classes. Way to go Mustangs!
Early Release Day
Next Wednesday, September 1st all elementary schools will have an Early Release Day. On early release days, school will dismiss at 2:10 pm. We will follow our regular dismissal routines.
September 3rd Institute Day
There will be no school for students next Friday for our D303 Institute Day. Enjoy the four-day weekend!
Fall Picture Day
Fall picture day is scheduled for Friday, September 9th. All students should have come home with ordering information in their backpacks. I will send an electronic communication next week with all ordering details. All ordering is done online this year.
From the Health Office
A change of clothing is a good idea to keep in your child’s backpack in case of bladder or bowel accidents, nosebleeds, feminine hygiene issues, lunch spills, etc. If you have clean extra clothing you can donate for K-5 students, it would be much appreciated by our health office. Shorts and T-shirts for both boys and girls and also leggings for girls would be helpful. We are also in need of new underwear for boys and girls. It is hot outside, so please remember to send a water bottle with your child every day.
Fall iReady Diagnostic Assessment
Today marks the end of the first week of the fall testing window for the iReady Diagnostic Assessment (except for Kindergarten students). Students will engage in both a reading and math assessment, which provides the teacher and student feedback about which skills they have in place, and what they might be ready to learn. Please see my write-up below from last week’s eNews, which shares more in-depth information about the assessment.

What is i-Ready?
i-Ready is an online program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, provides for personalized learning, and monitors their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides staff with data to inform instruction.
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Item difficulty will vary, ranging from questions your child knows well to questions about things your child may have not yet learned. The purpose of assessment is not to give your child a grade, but to determine how to best support their learning. Based on your child’s responses, i-Ready will help teachers know what your child does well, what they may need to learn, and what they are ready for next.
i-Ready Instruction provides students with lessons based on their individual strengths and areas for growth. These lessons are interactive and provide strategic supports to keep your child engaged as they learn. Your child’s teacher will monitor progress and can assign lessons based on how your student is progressing.
To help prepare your child for the i-Ready Diagnostic, encourage them to:
- Try their best on each question.
- Try not to worry about questions they do not know—remind them when they see a question about things they do not know yet, this is a preview of things they will learn.
- Be respectful of other students who take longer to finish.
- Use your paper and pencil to work out the math questions and come up with your best answer.
Thank you for your continued support and for being a partner in your child’s learning. Your child’s report will be sent home approximately one week after the testing window closes. If you have any questions about i-Ready, please do not hesitate to contact me or your child’s teachers.

Have a great weekend!
