Husky Happenings

Week of April 27th

A note from Ms. Pratt

Hello, Husky families. I really need your help. Teacher appreciation week is the week of May 4th-May 8th. Usually this is a time that we thank our teachers by celebrating together and filling them up with lots of tasty treats. Unfortunately, that is not the case this year; and this is probably a time when our teachers need to know how much they are appreciated the most. Virtual teaching is not what any of them signed up for, and not getting to spend their days teaching the students that they love is beyond challenging.

I am asking you to help me tell our teachers how much we love and appreciate them. Please take the time during the week of May 4th-May 8th to send a note to your child's classroom teacher, classroom assistant, or specials teacher. You or your child a can send a note or picture through email by using the following link:

http://www.hendersoncountypublicschoolsnc.org/hil/staff-directory/

Then, click on the link next to your teachers picture.

You could also send a letter, card, picture, etc. to the school at:

Hillandale Elementary School

40 Preston Lane

East Flat Rock, NC 28726

We will make sure that these make it to the appropriate people.

Thank you all again for all of your support during this challenging time. We love our Hillandale families. Please know that if your family needs anything, we are only a phone call or email away.

Stronger Together

Our community is stronger together. If your family is worrying about how to access food, you are not alone. Here's how your village can help...

New benefits! If your children access free and reduced lunch at school, North Carolina has approved a new benefit you will receive in the coming weeks. It's called the Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) program and it's to help more families purchase food during the COVID-19 pandemic. It's estimated that more than 800,000 children are expected to receive help buying food through the P-EBT program!

Families will not need to apply for the P-EBT program. P-EBT eligible families already receiving Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) benefits will receive an additional benefit on their existing EBT card. P-EBT eligible families not already enrolled in FNS will be mailed a new EBT card in the next few weeks. Families who receive a new EBT card will receive a letter from the NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in the mail explaining how to activate and use their card.

Please contact our school if you have any questions about accessing food or other obstacles during this time.
