Bully Prevention Month
October is Bullying Prevention Month! In District 57, we take the prevention of bullying very seriously. All Kindergarten through 8th grade students participate in weekly classroom meetings/advisory meetings to build classroom community and provide strategies for students on how to prevent/handle potential bullying situations. This is done, in part, using the Second Step Bullying Prevention Unit. These instructional materials offer an opportunity for students to share their feelings and opinions, to suggest solutions, and to learn to follow the rules and handle bullying situations appropriately. It also builds class community and cohesiveness and recognizes achievements and successes of the class as a whole.
We encourage any student or parent who is aware of a potential bullying situation to report the issue immediately to a staff member. This report will initiate an investigation. Whether or not the issue is found to be bullying, any behavior that does not follow school expectations will be addressed. We want all students to feel safe and comfortable during their time at school, and we are committed to removing barriers that are preventing this for individual students or groups of students. For more information on this topic, please visit this link.
Bullying is intentional physical, verbal, or social aggression. It’s often repeated over time and occurs when there’s a real or perceived power imbalance.

Front Office FAQs . . .
Question: When I return a call from Lincoln based on my caller ID why might the office not know the reason I was called?
Answer: All phones in the building register the main office line on your Caller ID. We ask parents to listen to messages before calling back. School personnel, if at all possible, will leave a message for you. We ask students who use school phones to also leave a message, as we have numerous students placing calls home from the office. Unfortunately, the office can not determine which phone in the building was used to place a call to you.
Question: What is the best way to pick up my child during the school day?
Answer:
- The front office prefers either a signed note or an email to Mrs. Moran - rmoran@d57.org AND Mrs. Harrington - aharrington@d57.org from a parent with the child's name, grade level, the reason for early dismissal, and pick-up time. Also, please include the name of the adult picking up your child if it is not a parent.
- It may be necessary to issue your child a pass if the pick-up time is during a class period. Otherwise, your child should come to the office during the passing period. Written notice eliminates the need for a parent to come in and sign the child out. When your car pulls up outside Door #1, your student may exit from the front office.
- If you do not know in advance and must remove your child from class, please come into the front office and we will call your student out of class. However, this can be disruptive to the class and may involve a longer wait time.
