December 15th Edition
Parenting Partners
Parenting Partners is a program to provide support for parents to ensure their students are successful. Please see our letter for more information and to sign up for upcoming workshops. We hope to see you there!
Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books is an event in which student teams answer questions about books they have read and compete to score the most points. Each year there are 20 Bluestem nominated books (What’s a Bluestem?) used for battle: 10 books are read for Fall Battle and the other 10 books are read for Spring Battle.
Oak Ridge had a very exciting Fall Battle of the Books this week! We had 24 teams compete, totally 76 students. Congratulations to our participants and winners: Claudia, Yasmin, Natalia, Malak, and Yara in 4th grade; Huda, Michael, Jacob, and Raheem in 5th grade!
Spelling Bee
Over the past 2 weeks, over 600 Oak Ridge students have competed to earn one of the coveted six spots in the 6th Annual All School Spelling Bee, which will take place this Thursday, December 19th. Congratulations to our top six spellers: Anthony, Akram, and Lamees in 3rd grade; Alex, Huda, and Mohammad in 5th grade.
The whole school will come together to cheer on their fellow classmates to spelling victory. The top three spellers will move on to represent Oak Ridge when they compete against Glen Oaks and Conrady after winter break to determine our district champion. The district champion will represent North Palos District 117 in the 10th Annual South Cook ISC Scripps Spelling Bee in February, 2020. Go Mustangs!
Winter Parties
Please see our informational letter regarding the Winter Parties on Friday, December 20th.
