Westmoor Update

~~~"A place where a student can dream, plan and achieve!"~~~
Week of October 26th
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Westmoor Parents, Caregivers, and Students,
Did you know that all students received a school planner? Organization is an important skill set for all of us. The school has invested in this tool to help students write down important due dates for assignments, and to have a place to keep track of other dates such as tests, school club meetings, and more. Experts in the field of organization have stated that it provides people with peace of mind when things are organized.
I hope that our students are using the various tools and resources provided to them to ensure their success in school and beyond!
Dream and Achieve,
Principal Grace Strickland
Just a reminder 12th graders - we are trying to meet with each of you. Appointments are being made and are popping up in your google email and google calendar. Please check your email and calendar if you have not met with your counselor. If you missed an appointment please check in with your counselor. We are here to assist you!
Found a great link about personal statements for the UC application. Please check it out if you are applying to the UC system. UC Application- personal insight questions.
Just a reminder, the CCGI website is a “one-stop” shop- it allows you to narrow down your career interests and select a major. It allows you to search for a major at a college. It allows you to apply to the CSU, UC, private colleges, and community colleges. Check it out!
We have had a couple of students ask about the Cal Grant. Cal Grant is free money provided by the state of California for students that are attending school in California. Please click on the attached link for additional information. Cal Grant awards
We are still getting asked about SAT fee waivers. As of right now according to the collegeboard website there is no SAT testing. https://www.collegeboard.org
If you are interested in applying to a private university- and you are using Common Application - the counselors' accounts are made in their JUHSD account, not their jeffersonunion.net account. Please check in with your counselor before submitting information so there is no confusion and delay with your application submission.
If you are interested in taking a college concurrent enrollment class next semester check out this link. https://webschedule.smccd.edu
Right now it is very important to maintain a similar school routine and not allow yourself to get stuck. Get up at 7:30, take a shower, eat a hearty breakfast, get dressed, be ready for school by 8:30. Show up with your screen on and ready to learn. Take a break when you don't need to be on your screen. Walk away. Stretch. Come back and conquer your next class.
Finish the day strong! And then shut off from electronics for a break. Press the pause BUTTON and just BE. Create a to-do list. Check things off when you complete them. Taking breaks and checking in with each other is very important. If you can take a walk- do it.
Flu Vaccine
To prevent a “twindemic” of COVID-19 and seasonal influenza, San Mateo County Health is urging everyone over the age of 6 months to get a flu shot to protect themselves and their loved ones. Flu vaccination is part of a comprehensive public health strategy not only to reduce the burden of flu but also to preserve health care resources for care of patients with COVID-19. It takes a couple of weeks after vaccination for the body to build an immunity, so it’s best not to delay getting a shot.
Older adults, pregnant women, young adults, children, and people with other underlying health conditions are most at risk of getting the flu, but everyone six months and older should get vaccinated.
It takes two weeks after being immunized to be fully protected. The vaccine only keeps you fully protected for about one year, so it’s important to get vaccinated every year.
You can get flu shots at:
  • Your doctor’s office
  • Retail pharmacies and stores (call first to check vaccine availability)
    Click here for locations: https://vaccinefinder.org/
  • A free flu clinic in San Mateo County:
