Fred Lorz was the 1904 Olympic Champion for a few minutes. He dropped out of the race at the 9th mile and was driven back, until the car broke down at the 19th mile. There, Lorz decided to run back. He finished in first and was celebrated until someone reported his cheating. He immedeatly admitted what he did, and simply said that he was cheating. The AAU proceeded to ban him from participating in any Olympic Games for life. A year later, they reviewed the ban and lifted it.
