Saxton Newsletter 24.6.22

Cricket Team

Well done to our cricket team who played in the area tournament at Church Fenton yesterday. They played incredibly well and were narrowly beaten in the final. We are very proud of all of them.

Mrs Payne

Sadly, after 5 years at our school Mrs Payne has resigned from her position as TA and will leave us at the end of term to explore opportunities in a different career. We would like to sincerely thank her for all the support she has given to our children during her time with us and wish her well for the future.

GTA Vacancy

You might have seen the advert for a teaching assistant at our school starting next year. If you, or someone you know, might be interested in the role and want to find out more please speak to Mr Weights.

Mrs Dearden

Governors are delighted to have appointed Mrs Dearden as an additional teaching assistant. She will initially work in Sycamore class, starting in July.

Parent Governor

Unfortunately, we did not receive any nominations for the role of parent governor and have therefore been unable to appoint at this time. We will run another election in September. If you are interested in the role of governor and would like to find out more please speak to Mr Weights.

Open Classrooms

We will have an Open Classrooms event after school on Wednesday 13th July, where your child will be able to share their work with you.

Teacher Interviews

Governors are interviewing teacher candidates on 1st July, following which we hope to be able to announce the teaching structure for next year. We are sorry that we can’t announce this sooner, but it obviously depends upon us making the right appointments.

We need your help

Sycamore Class needs your help on Monday 27th June 2022! As part of our Archbishop of York Young Leaders Award, we have designed our own community action project. The pupils of Sycamore have chosen to clear and weed a section of our wildlife area in school. We will be hosting two ambassadors from the Arch Bishop's trust, who will be coming along to take pictures, record videos and help out with our event. We would love it if any parents or carers could come along to lend a hand or let us borrow any gardening tools (shovels, garden shears, strimmers or pruning tools). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Book Swap Event - Friday 1st July

On Friday 1st July during school hours we will be holding our book swap event as well as

some fun activities around reading and sharing book recommendations with each other.

There will be a storytime session and the Year 5 children have created a fun book quiz scramble that will be held on the school field. To top the event off, it will conclude with a Book Swap BBQ lunch. Some refreshments will also be provided to all the children during the morning.

It would be great if children could come in a themed outfit. The theme for the event will be ‘Just One Word’. For example if you chose the word ‘spotty’ you could come dressed in spotty clothes or the word ‘colourful’ and come dressed in different colours. Try to use your imagination and dress up as the most interesting word you can think of and we can all have fun guessing your word!

We would also ask that children could bring in a voluntary donation of £1 which will go towards buying a permanent book swap station that will be placed in the playground for children to bring and swap a book whenever they choose.

FOSS Summer Fair

Don’t forget that FOSS are still requiring donations for the raffle/ tombola at the summer fair. If you are able to support by asking local attractions or businesses for donations we would be very grateful.

School Calendar - keep up to date!

Please remember to keep checking the calendar regularly, as there will be a lot happening in school. We are planning to hold a production for parents, done by KS2 children, there will be a transition day for new classes, an end of year service in church, and other events happening. Dates will be circulated in the news, but the calendar is always the best source of advance notice. This is available on the bottom of each Friday newsletter and on our website.

School Lunches

Please see the Summer 2022 Lunch menu below. Next week we will be on Week 3 of lunches.

Next Friday, 1st July is the BBQ Book Swap Lunch. Our cook will be serving Burger in a bun with garlic potato wedges, Salad and coleslaw and Chocolate orange mousse.

We will therefore serve Sausage in a Bun on Monday instead of the burgers.

Children can decide daily whether they are having a school dinner or packed lunch.

Please ensure you discuss the menu each day with your child so they can decide what they would like to order. Once they know their choices, they will choose this each morning with their teacher during registration.

Each day there are 4 choices, either the hot dinner, hot vegetarian option, jacket potato with a choice of toppings or a sandwich. The sandwich and jacket potato always come with a selection of vegetables/salad on the side and have the full pudding choice for that day.

Packed Lunches - if you are sending grapes in your child's packed lunch, can you please ensure that these are cut in half.

Application for Pupil Absence Form

This form should be completed by the parent/carer and returned to the school as far in advance as possible and preferably preferably with sufficient notice before the first intended day of absence.
