Make Up Days for 2nd Semester
School is in session Monday, January 20th.
There have been a lot of questions regarding snow day make ups and the associated state law which can be difficult to interpret. Hopefully, the following information will provide an explanation of the requirements regarding make up days and the impact this will have on our school year.
School districts are required to make up a maximum of 10 days due to inclement weather. The law mandates that the first six days of missed school due to inclement weather will be made up. After the first six days, a day will be made up for each two days of school missed for a total of 10 make up days. The rest of the days will be forgiven. For example: a school district that misses 12 days due to inclement weather will actually make up 9 days.
Semester Grade Reports
Semester grades are included on the permanent transcript for each student. A successfully completed semester class results in a student earning .5 credit toward graduation. Bolivar students must earn 27 credits to graduate.
Invitations to our Academic Banquet will be included with grade reports for students who have qualified for this recognition. To earn the Academic Letter, a student must have a 3.67 semester gpa with no grade lower than a B.
Please remember that we have tutoring available Monday-Thursday from 3:00-6:00 pm after school in the library. No appointment is needed. Students are welcome to use the extended library hours to study, research, or get extra help from a teacher. We also have tutoring available in the library each day except Wednesday from 7:15-8:00 am
Taking Pride in Effective Communication
Although we felt great about the overwhelmingly positive results of that survey, we did note a few areas that were a little lower than the rest. One of those areas was related to parent communication and keeping you informed of what's happening with your student's academic progress.
We've set some goals to try to improve in this area. We hope you feel you have the right amount of communication to stay informed. Our teachers will strive to contact you by phone, email, or snail mail to provide you with information about what's happening in class, and especially if your student is struggling.
Information is always available through the Parent Portal. If you need any help accessing this service, our staff is always just a phone call away. You can check academic progress, see transcripts, attendance, and even lunch balances.
You can also access a mobile friendly version of the Parent Portal designed specifically for smaller screens like smart phones.
We hope the portal is a valuable tool for you to stay connected to basic information about your student. Thank you for using this resource to help your child succeed.
In addition to the portal, please watch for emails from BHS. We'll try to not to flood your inbox, but our teachers are working to send more frequent updates.
Finally, we are also adding a feature from School Reach whereby parents will receive a phone call notification about 6 pm if their student is absent for any block during the school day. This feature will help to ensure that attendance reporting is accurate and timely.
If you ever need assistance or have questions, give us a call at 326-5228. Or, send us an email. Every teacher's email address is available through the Parent Portal.
