Mental Health and Wellness: Did You Know?
“In 2015, 32% of Michigan high school students between grades 9 and 12 have felt sad or hopeless (Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System [YRBSS], 2016). Half of all mental health disorders show first signs before a person turns 14 years old, and three quarters of mental health disorders begin before age 24 (mentalhealth.gov, 2017). ”
Asking for Help is Okay. You are Not Alone.
It’s ok to ask for help. Don’t be ashamed to tell someone what you’re struggling with. There are people who have been through the same thing or will understand and want to help. Don’t think you are alone.

Educate Yourself About Mental Illness and Mental Health Care.
Mental health is real. Quit trying to avoid reality and take some time to learn about mental illnesses.

Raise Parent Awareness.
Mental illness can be a big problem among young people that many adults don’t see. Teens struggle every day in ways no one knows about. Teens may think it is normal to depressed or anxious and may put up walls or use distractions to cope. Parents should be aware of signs of mental illness so their children can get the help they need.
