BWMS Parent Update
8/30/19
August Coming to a Close
It was a great week at BWMS.
Our core teachers all participated in Data Teams this week to review STAR and Assessment marks. We also discuss classroom supports and corresponding interventions that reinforce our vision to Personalize Instruction, Engage Students and Grow Minds. Those reports came home today.
If you have not yet heard, BWMS Curriculum Night is going Digital this year. All teachers have posted Curriculum Videos under a Parent Resource Folder in courses within Schoology. To access the teacher videos, log into Schoology and select one of your student’s classes from the courses tab. Next, click on the Parent Resource Folder and review the information about the teacher and class. Our desire is to first connect with our you as an individual as well as communicate an overview of curriculum information. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to any teacher with any questions.
Have a great extended weekend and Go Eagles!
Sincerely,
Mr. Josh Frame

School Counseling Update
Information from NAMI
NAMI Delaware and Morrow Counties will be offering NAMI Basics, a free six-week course for parents, grandparents and other fulltime caregivers of children with mental health conditions.
If you have any questions about the course or its content, please don’t hesitate to contact me. NAMI Delaware and Morrow Counties will also be offering a similar course, Family to Family, for family members and caregivers of an adult living with mental illness. You can find more information about that course at www.namiofdel-mor.org/family.
One in five children is living with a mental illness. People raising children with mental health conditions may struggle to understand how to support their child and find appropriate treatment while also taking care of themselves and the rest of the family. The stigma of mental illness can also cause families to become isolated and struggle alone. Through NAMI Basics, caregivers will learn about the biological basis of mental illness, treatment options, and how to navigate the mental health system. The course will also focus on skills to help with daily life and difficult behavior, including problem-solving and communication strategies based on the work of Dr. Ross Greene, author of The Explosive Child.
NAMI Basics begins Thursday, September 19 and will meet for six weeks at 1070 Polaris Pkwy, Suite 200, Columbus, Ohio 43240. The course is free and all materials will be provided, however, registration is required. Parents and caregivers can register online at www.namiofdel-mor.org/namibasics

Reminders
- Unfortunately, BWMS cannot provide supervision of students until 7:15 AM so we ask that parents arrange drop off schedules accordingly. At that time, all students report to the cafeteria until they are released at the first bell at 7:30 AM.
- Parent Drop Off and Pick Up should use Fairland Drive. This is for the safety of our students riding the buses coming in from the Cheshire Road entrance. We ask that you pull all the way down to the Orange Cone so we can drop off and pick up as many students as possible.
- If your child will be absent, please call the attendance line at 740-965-7786 by 8:30am on the day of the absence.
Stay Connected with Schoology
- BWMS will send out Announcements Periodically throughout the week to keep others informed using the new school communication and learning management system - Schoology - https://schoology.bwls.net/home.
- In addition, we suggest that you follow us on Social Media @BigWalnutMS (Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram) to stay up to date.
