RES News
May 27, 2020
Hello Bobcat Families! Read below for a lot of information regarding the end of the school year! It's lengthy, but please read until the end!
Closing Out the Year
Instruction: Core instruction will continue through Friday, May 29. For June 1-9 the focus will be on supplemental instruction. Instructional materials will be on the RES website this week. www.onslow.k12.nc.us/richlandses
Returning School Items and Picking up Personal Belongings:
We will do our mass collection/distribution on June 4 and June 5 from 12-7pm.
In the BUS CIRCLE, students in grades 3-5 should plan to return their school-issued laptop and charger. During the same time in the FRONT of the GYM, students can pick up their personal belongings from the classroom (we will have them bagged and labeled for you), and/or drop off any school materials such as library books. You will not have to get out of the car, both of these collection sites will be drive-thru service. Please make every effort to drive through during these set times. You will need to state the student name and homeroom teacher for quick retrival of their belongings. The Lunch Hub will also be open from 10-1 those days, so if you are not getting a lunch, try to come after 1pm to avoid traffic congestion.
Yearbooks: If you purchased a yearbook, they will be available during the times above and will be packed in with your personal belongings. We will have a few extra yearbooks available for purchase. They are $20 and will be sold on a first come, first serve basis, starting at 9am on Monday, June 8 in the front office. Checks should be made payable to RES. 5/26/20- WE RECEIVED INFORMATION FROM LIFETOUCH THAT THEY MAY BE DELAYED. WE WILL KEEP THIS DATE FOR NOW AND WILL LET YOU KNOW IF THEY HAVE NOT ARRIVED IN TIME. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING!
Ident-A-Kid Cards: If you purchased these, they will be in student packed belongings on June 4 and 5 as well.
Class pictures/spring pictures: If you have not already picked these up, spring picture proofs will be put in your student's packed belongings. We do have a few extra class pictures. Call the front office if you are interested in purchasing one.
Report Cards: Report cards will be distributed on Tuesday, June 9th. Please let your child's homeroom teacher know if you want the report card digitally or if you prefer to have a paper copy mailed to you. You will receive a report card with grades for the first three grading periods. There will not be a grade for the fourth grading period. You will also receive a feedback form attached to the report card that will describe your child's academic progress this year.
Milestone Celebrations
While we are so proud of all of our students, RES typically has a special program for our Kindergarteners and 5th graders. Our plans to honor these groups are as follows:
Fifth graders will be honored with a drive-thru celebration on Monday, June 8 from 5-7. Families are encouraged to drive through by the front of the school and pick up a little treat and be celebrated by our staff. Also, beginning on the evening of June 5, each RES 5th grader will be represented with a pinwheel display at our entrance. We wish our 5th graders the best of luck in middle school!
Kindergarteners will have a parade on Wednesday, June 3, beginning at 6pm. Families are encouraged to decorate their cars for the parade. Parents should enter the parking lot in a single file line and the parade will go through the normal car line. Once you are on RES property, a staff member will give your Kindergartener a graduation cap. Families are limited to one car and siblings can pick their time. We will broadcast the parade on Facebook Live on the Richlands Elementary School Facebook page. Spectators are not permitted and no parking will be allowed due to social distancing requirements. Classes should begin at the following times:
Summers/Zimmer 6:00
Jarman 6:10
Lesser 6:20
Hannan 6:30
Barnett 6:40
Dougherty 6:50
Flory 7:00

Looking Ahead to 2020-21 School Year!
All of our current K-4 students will be given a summer instructional activity list to help reinforce skills that are necessary for the next grade. Please set aside a little time as your family schedule allows for these activities.
School Starts on August 17, 2020! We will send out postcards with teacher assignments and Open House information in early August.
Summer Programs MAY be offered in reading and math. Once we learn more for the NC Board of Education we will notify those students who are eligible.
Supply lists for 20-21 will be sent home with student materials on June 4th/5th on bright yellow paper. The list is also on our website if you need to refer back to it.
Please continue to check the RES website and Facebook for summer highlights and information. www.onslow.k12.nc.us/richlandses
Although our students, staff, and families have proven themselves to be so very resilient, we are certainly hoping to have a full year of school and all of the learning, serving, and leading that it entails! Stay safe, Bobcats and enjoy your summer!!!!
PTO ELECTIONS for 2020-2021
We are so fortunate to have reinstated our PTO this year! PTO has done a great job supporting staff and students and we look forward to another amazing year!
All parents of RES students are considered members of the PTO (there are no dues). PTO members are asked to nominate for the offices of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. If you would like to nominate a fellow PTO member for office, please send your nominations to Sarah.Barnett@onslow.k12.nc.us no later than the close of business on Monday, June 1. Rising Kindergarten parents are eligible for nomination for office.
On June 4, election ballots will be sent electronically to all parents via their student's homeroom teacher. Voting will be anonymous and will close at 5pm on June 8.
Leader in Me News
Richlands Elementary has been recognized as a Covey Lighthouse School! Thank you to all of the parents, staff, and students who participated in the review process. Being a lighthouse school means that RES is implementing the principles of the Leader in Me program at the highest level. We are ecstatic about this recognition and plan to celebrate BIG when school resumes!
LIM Survey:
Each year Leader in Me School parents, students, and staff take a survey to determine areas of needed growth in the areas of leadership, culture, and academics. Only 4th and 5th graders are asked to take the survey and their teachers have given them the link in their Teams assignments. All K-5 parents are asked to take the survey. Thank you in advance!
