Graduating Seniors Return to HWE
We were thrilled to welcome our former Hickory Woods Hawks and WLCSD graduates at Friday’s Senior Walk! We love this special tradition because it celebrates our Seniors and inspires future graduates! All too soon, our current students will be back at Hickory Woods and as graduates. We are so proud of our Seniors and their hard work! Once a Hawk, Always a Hawk!
Field Day - Friday, June 3
- Please make sure your child has appropriate clothes for the day and gym shoes.
- Students may bring a water bottle, too. Sunblock is also a good idea as we will be outside for half of the day.
- Due to space constraints and security protocols, Field Day is not a spectator event. Volunteers are permitted but other visitors/spectators are not permitted. This is to ensure our safety and security protocols are in-place and manageable.
More volunteers spots have been added, so there is still time to sign up to assist!
Hickory Woods Elementary Field Day 2022 - Sign-Up Genius Link
June 3 will be our normal Happy's Pizza Day. All students who would like are able to get a full school lunch including a slide of pizza. The PTA will be paying for the additional cost for a second slice of pizza for any student who would like. Teachers will be doing a pre-count for pizza orders earlier in the week of Field Day. Students can also choose to bring a lunch from home. We will be using our regular lunch times, and students will be eating in the lunchroom on June 3.
Upcoming School Safety Lesson (REPEAT)
On Thursday, May 26, we will be learning about one of our options-based emergency responses. This lesson will focus on evacuating and safe places to go in an emergency.
We will not be physically practicing an evacuation to an off-site location. We also will not discuss any violent scenarios. We will engage in age-appropriate discussions with our students about safe places to go if we need to leave the building. Lesson teaching points include:
We practice so we know what to do in an emergency. We’re not scared, we’re prepared!
Our job is to keep you safe. Your job is to listen and follow the adults’ directions.
Evacuate means to leave the building. Your teacher or a trusted adult may tell you to leave the building and go to a safe place.
If an adult tells you to leave the building. Listen, quickly go to a safe place, and then wait for helpers (police officers, firefighters, trusted adults, etc.)
Student safety continues to be our first priority. We will continue to collaborate with local law enforcement and families to ensure a safe learning environment for our children. We welcome your input and are grateful for your partnership.

Welcome, New Hawks! - REMINDER
Do you know of a family who will be joining our school community next year? Please
help us plan for the 2022-2023 school year!
We encourage all new families to enroll ASAP! Whether they are a new kindergarten family or a family that recently moved into our attendance area, new Hawks should visit www.wlcsd.org/enrollment to begin the enrollment process. Please also call our main office so we can add them to our email list.
This helps us plan for the correct number of sections per grade level and impacts class sizes. Please spread the word and encourage new HWE Hawk families to enroll ASAP!
Girl Scout - REMINDER
We need your help! Troop 76549 is collecting donations for the Michigan Humane Society. New or gently used fleece blankets, new nylon toys, cat litter, and dry dog food are needed. You can donate any of these items in the box outside the front of the media center. Please donate if you can!

Optional COVID testing now available at the ESC - REPEAT
The District is now offering optional COVID testing to our staff, students, and parents. Both Rapid and PCR tests are available. The testing will take place at the Educational Services Center (850 Ladd Road, Building D Walled Lake, MI 48390) on Tuesdays and Fridays from 2-7 p.m.
The COVID testing staff, provided by a third party, will be responsible for letting people in the side door on the south side of the building.
- If you have insurance, your insurance provider will be billed.
- If you do not have insurance, there is a cost of $110.00 for a PCR test and $50.00 for a rapid test - This comes as a result of the Federal Government no longer providing funding for testing.
There will be signage placed both inside and outside of the building. To set up an appointment for testing, please complete this requisition form.
Hawk Pick-Up - REMINDERS
- All drivers are expected to park ONLY in designated parking spots. Please DO NOT park anywhere that may block the path of another vehicle.
We have found that the parking lot is busiest from 3:35 - 3:55. If your schedule allows, you can plan to arrive at HWE at or after 3:55 and contend with much less traffic. Our staff is prepared to monitor our pick-up process through 4:05.
ALL drivers must use caution and drive slowly.
Avoid cell phone use in our parking lot.
Watch for pedestrians.
We all play an important role in making our arrival and dismissal routines efficient and safe.
To reduce congestion, please use bus transportation (if eligible and available).
