b. The United States of America is an archipelagic country made up of 50 states all united under one government.
c. There are several species of rare birds who live among the archipelagos around the Mediterranean sea.
d. It is difficult for an archipelago to support a large population due to the many small areas of land that can only hold so many.
Although the United States is composed of many states, they are not separated by land.
The second definition is also incorrect. Although they are entities contained within a defined area, they are not separate in government, language, or people.
