Big picture

Dr. Justin Herrell, Principal, Westport Middle School

I was born in Mansfield, MO in August of 1970. I am one of six children and I grew up in Ava, MO where my parents were small business owners and raised beef cattle and Missouri Fox-trotting Horses. Ava is still home to my Mother and several of my siblings. I graduated from Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State University) in 1992 and began my teaching career. I taught and coached for 8 years (4 outside of Springfield) prior to entering into administration. I have been fortunate to be an Administrative Intern (Dist. Offices, 1 yr); Asst. Principal, Parkview H.S. (3yrs); Principal, Hillcrest H.S. (3 yrs); Executive Director-Secondary Education, (7yrs); Associate Superintendent (4 yrs); and Westport M.S. Principal, present. I have enjoyed an experienced filled career and look forward to many years at Westport. I have been married to my beautiful wife Nicole for 23 yrs and we have two sons, Colton (20) and Alex (16). Nicole is a Reading Specialist at Study Alternative Center, PALs program, Colton is a jr. at MSU where he is majoring in Cellular Molecular Biology and Alex is a Sophomore at Catholic High School where he participates in numerous clubs, wrestles and is big into drama/acting. Alex also plays lead guitar in a local band and pursues other musical interests. We are active in our Church and enjoy outdoor activities, reading, and going to the movies. We live close to Westport which allows me to participate more easily in activities at the school and connect to our neighborhood. I am very proud of my family and their activities, as well as, the work I have done throughout my career and I look forward to what the future will bring here at Westport. Go Wildcats!
