Hello Parents and Guardians. This coming week we get ready to celebrate Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week started after the death of Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, who in 1985 was brutally murdered by drug traffickers he was investigating in Mexico. After his death, people started wearing red ribbons to honor Kiki’s sacrifice.
Red Ribbon Week is celebrated annually October 23-31 and is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention awareness program in the nation and is a way for people and communities to take a visible stance against drugs. This awareness program works alongside student councils and school boards to review policies and advocate for drug-and alcohol-free school grounds and sporting events.
Finally, look for the special attachment below that is full of ideas and tips on how to support your middle school student. We hope you enjoy reading it!
