EVA January Newsletter
January 2022
From Principal Natividad
EVA Families,
Welcome back, I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break and have had the opportunity to be re-energized with your friends and families. Entering January, many of us have new year resolutions and goals for stronger routines. As integral partners in your student’s success, we always look forward to working with our parents and guardians to support and monitor our student’s learning. Settling in the new year, here are some routines to help students start the second half of the year off on a positive note.
Attend school regularly and be on time: The first step of doing our best is engaging in all classes and arriving at your zoom class on time. Please remember attendance is tracked based on active engagement and participation in all live zoom class sessions with cameras on. For our middle school students, please be sure to arrive on time or within the first five minutes of class since your teachers take attendance at the beginning of each class. As a reminder, missing 5 minutes of a 45-minute class is missing more than 10% of the class.
Get plenty of sleep: Scientists have found that students who do not get enough sleep have difficulty paying attention in class and do not do as well in school. Recommended amounts of sleep range from about 8½ to 11 hours a night for all students.
Monitor learning: For elementary students, check out your student’s Canvas Course to see their current assignments. For middle school students, please check Home Access Center to see their current assignments and grades. Additionally, praise them when you hear their great stories of learning or see a good grade on their latest assessment. They need validation for the good work they are doing.
Teach Growth Mindset: Encourage your children to take the time to carefully complete all assignments at school and home, ask questions when they do not understand a task, demonstrate perseverance (that means keep trying – even when the work is difficult), and eliminate the word “can’t” from their vocabulary. Students are encouraged to make it a goal to do their personal best at school every day and never give up.
iReady: For our elementary students, please reinforce your students’ completion of their weekly iReady goals. On Monday, students should engage in their asynchronous time with 45 minutes of reading for the week. On Wednesday, students should engage in their asynchronous time with 45 minutes of math. The last goal is that they are passing their online lessons at 70% or higher.
Although it is January, we are beginning to plan for our enrollment numbers for next year.
Currently, the Online School Transfer Application Acceptance process for the 2022-23 school year has opened on January 3, 2022 for all resident students of Everett Public Schools.
For our Existing EVA students who choose to stay, your student will automatically roll up to the next grade at the EVA.
If you chose to attend your resident (home) school for the 2022-23 school year, you must submit a request to return to in person learning here. https://www.everettsd.org/Page/30850
If you know Everett Public School families who are requesting a new student enrollment into the Everett Virtual Academy for the 2022-23 school year, please let them know that they can submit the Online School Transfer Application Form which can be found here: https://www.everettsd.org/Page/30850
Sincerely,
Daniel Natividad, Principal

With the Holiday season over and the short dark days this time of year January, February and March can be a real challenge for our mental health. Make sure to check in with yourself and your students to see how you are doing. Diet, exercise, interacting with others and making time for things we love can all be helpful. Here is a link to our mindfulness page with some activities and ideas for things to do that will help promote good mental health:
