IVY TECH LEADERS VISIT HIGH SCHOOL
Ivy Tech and Parke Heritage staff members include NCP Superintendent Dr. Thomas Rohr, Ivy Tech Chancellor Lea Anne Crooks, Ivy Tech Vice Chancellor Student Enrollment Leah Allman, Parke Heritage Principal Dwight Ashley, Ivy Tech Lead College Connection Coach Laura Hayes, and Ivy Tech Vice President of K-12 Initiatives and Statewide Partnerships Dr. Katie Jenner.
Members of the Ivy Tech Community College visited Parke Heritage High School recently. Visiting were Chancellor Lea Anne Crooks, Vice Chancellor Student Enrollment Leah Allman, and Vice President of K-12 Initiatives and Statewide Partnerships Dr. Katie Jenner.
The group met with NCP Superintendent Dr. Thomas Rohr, Parke Heritage High School Principal Dwight Ashley Ivy Tech College Connection Coach Laura Hayes, Guidance Director Jane McMullen and Guidance Counselor Sheryl McDaniel to discuss the dual-credit program that is offered at the high school.
“The work they are doing to focus on post-secondary completions by high school graduation is incredible!” said Dr. Jenner. “It is most impressive because their team, in partnership with Parke Heritage, post-secondary (Ivy Tech-Terre Haute campus), and industry/community support, work in partnership to determine how they might best prepare their students for life beyond high school.”
During the meeting, the Parke Heritage staff discussed their overall commitment to helping students reach their post-secondary goals. For the graduation class of 2019, 42% will be graduating from PH with a post-secondary credential. PH is one of the few high schools in the surrounding area with that percentage of students participating in the program.
Senior Dakota Alexander gave a tour of the school and discussed the Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs available to the students. These programs are available both at the PH campus as well as area schools through the Wabash River Career and Technical Education (WRCTE) program.
Josie Stutler and Kylen McMullen chatted with Dr. Jenner, Chancellor Crooks, and Vice-Chancellor Allman about the importance of having a College Connection Coach available at the high school and how the Statewide Transfer General Education Core technical certificate will help them with the degrees they are seeking.
“Also, important to note,” said Dr. Jenner. “Parke Heritage is making this happen as a rural school district with less than 400 students in their high school, yet they have creatively determined solutions in order to allow their students the best opportunity for post-high school success.”

The Rockville Elementary fifth grade class presented their Tableau Museum on Thursday, February 28.
Each student read a book and researched a famous American for their project. They then drew posters of their person, and worked on ways to become that person for the Tableau Museum.
“I picked Walt Disney because I enjoy reading graphic novels,” said Deacon Hooker.
During the Museum presentation, the students stood like wax figures as other classes and parents walked through the hallways to see the many famous characters. The characters presented by the fifth graders varied from musicians, historical figures, athletes to politicians.
The students were each given the option to pick their own person to research.
“I wanted to research a woman author,” said Destiny Orlea. “Emily Dickinson was one of four authors that I had to choose from.”
With the assistance of their teachers and staff members, the students were able to design costumes to make them able to resemble that person for the public presentation.
“I think the students did the best job on the costumes that I’ve ever had,” said Mrs. Lisa Wrightsman, fifth grade teacher. “It was very exciting to see them enjoy the project.”
