IOWA Testing

Save the Date: IOWA Testing September 19th-22nd (for 3rd and 5th graders only)

The Iowa Assessment is designed to measure and compare individual students’ performances or test results to those of other students at the national level. The Iowa Assessment measures skills and content knowledge in a multiple choice format in the areas of Reading, Writing, Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science. The test is norm-referenced, meaning individual student achievement is reported compared to other students in the same grade across the nation.

Results help teachers identify students’ strengths and areas that may need additional emphasis. The results are one additional piece of data to help enable sound decision-making and provide a focus for teachers to review and improve their instruction. Results also show parents how their student is performing in comparison to other students at the same grade level nationally. Student level reports will be available to parents in December.

Testing will begin promptly at 8:00 am each day. Please make sure that your child is on time for school on these days. It is also important that they have gotten a good night’s sleep and have eaten a healthy breakfast prior to coming to school. This will help set them up for success.

Please be aware that we will not be able to welcome parent volunteers during testing. Thank you so much for your understanding.

Digital Citizenship Workshop

Dear Summit Hill Family Member,

Many parents today share an interest - and even sometimes a bit of concern - about their kids' digital lives. As part of Common Sense's connecting Families Program, we are hosting a morning for parent discussion and education about Digital Citizenship and the curriculum covered at school. We hope you will join us on September 11th at 9:00 a.m. in the Media center.

I hope to see you there!

Warmly,

Mrs. Howard

BREAKING NEWS!

We would like to introduce everyone to “The Summit”. The Summit is the combination of The Leader in Me Lighthouse team and the PBIS team. The Summit will continue to follow the same principles of both TLIM and PBIS programs. We are excited to announce the use of a houses program to promote and practice these foundational skills.

The Summit Houses program will entail:

  • 4 Houses (Blue, White, Gray, Black)

  • Students will collect PAWS for house points.

  • PAWS are earned for exhibiting the 7 Habits.

  • Houses will compete for the most points.

  • The House with the most points at the end of the year will

    earn a celebration.

Students will participate in a celebratory pep rally on Friday, September 8th. No parent visitors will be allowed during this time, as we want to build the community between the different grade levels in each house. We hope they are excited about being a leader in their new house! Please stay tuned for more information as we start this exciting journey to the top!

SHE Chorus at Cambridge High School

SHE Chorus will be singing the National Anthem alongside other schools in the Cambridge High School cluster at the Cambridge Bears football game on Friday, September 15th! Chorus student arrival time is 6:15. We hope to see our SHE families in the crowd for the game! Kick-off is at 7:30!

First Grade Needs Your Help!

Reader’s Workshop is well underway down the first grade hallway, and we need your help. Our first grade classes are in need of a variety of books to build classroom libraries. If you have any gently used books lying on your bookshelves at home we would like you to consider donating them to a very worthy cause. We promise that they will be put to good use!

Donations can be dropped off at the front desk, labeled ‘1st Grade Book Donation’. Thank you in advance for supporting our first graders !

Sincerely,

The First Grade Team
