Exploration Wednesday 2022
Each school year Loveland High School pauses from its usual processes to give students an opportunity to learn through community service and personal growth activities. The date for this in 2022-23 will be Wednesday, October 12. The seniors (class of 2023) will participate in either community service, a college visit or a career shadow. The freshman (class of 2026) will continue to learn about community engagement and personal growth with activities that offer a follow up to Link Crew Freshman Orientation. The sophomores and juniors (classes of 2024 and 2025) get to choose from one of the following options:
ASVAB Career Exploration Program
Not just for those who are planning on serving our nation in the military, the ASVAB is a valuable career assessment that can help students to compare their results with the career research that is done in Naviance. While there is no obligation to pursue military service for any student who opts to take the ASVAB, this assessment can help those who are considering enlisting to make plans for specific jobs in the service. Please see this link for more information - https://asvabprogram.com/
Practice ACT through Ohio Means Jobs
Taking a practice ACT can help those students who are interested in experiencing a college readiness assessment that will lead to suggestions for future improvement. Students will use the Ohio Means Jobs online exam preparation resources. The practice tests are scored instantly with detailed answer explanations given. Bringing a fully charged Chromebook to the Practice ACT is required.
PSAT
The PSAT serves as the preliminary SAT and also serves as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (when taken in 11th grade). Students who choose this option will have access to free, personalized online prep tools for the SAT by linking their College Board accounts with Khan Academy. Taking this assessment in both grades 10 and 11 will allow for a measurement of college readiness growth. Please see this link for more information - https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt-psat-10
WorkKeys
WorkKeys is an assessment for students who are considering earning an industry-recognized credential while in high school. Students who choose this option will be assessed in Applied Math, Graphic Literacy and Workplace Documents. Any student who is giving consideration to attending Great Oaks or going into the workforce after high school is encouraged to choose this option. Please see this link for more information - http://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/workkeys-for-job-seekers/preparation.html
Members of the classes of 2024 and 2025 will make their selections during advisory on Thursday, April 21, choosing an activity that will best assist them with making plans for after high school. Please take the time to reflect on which option will be best for your specific situation. A selection will be made on the student’s behalf for anyone who does not complete the google form. Please contact Mr. Mitchell at mitchedr@lovelandschools.org with any questions. Thank you!
Important Information about End of Course and AP Testing
Starting Thursday, April 7th, students in grades 9-11 will begin to take the statewide End of Course Exams (EOCs). Below you will find the days of the tests as well as the bell schedule during testing days. Having students attend school during the testing days is extremely important. However, we do understand that a late start to the school day could cause transportation issues. If necessary, the high school will be open to any student who is not testing. Students reporting at regular time will report to the cafeteria and can use the time to work on assignments.
During the six days of testing, we will be operating under a modified bell schedule. Click the link below to view the testing schedule and modified bell schedule.
Student and Family 2022 EOC Schedule
9th Grade- Freshmen students will be taking either the Algebra I or Geometry EOC and all 9th grade students will be taking the Biology EOC.
10th Grade- All sophomore students will be taking the English Language Art (ELA) part 1 and 2 and the American History EOC. Only students in Geometry will be taking a math EOC exam.
11th Grade- Only juniors taking American Government will be taking the EOC exam.
Students who are taking an Advance Placement (AP) course(s) will have an opportunity to come to school and participate in a review session during testing days. Review sessions are not mandatory and will not cover new material. There will be two review sessions a day as indicated below.
Students may participate in the first session and then leave the building if they do not have a second session. Students may also stay in the cafeteria if they do not have a second review session. Please have your student communicate with the teacher if they have any questions.
