CURRICULUM UPDATE
Reading: We are learning how to read books with a pattern. Looking at the picture clues and matching our voice to the words (pointing) helps us figure out the words in the pattern. They are also remembering the pattern from page to page and recognizing what word(s) are changing on each page.
Math: We are beginning to solve real life number problems. We have thought about how many combinations of 3, 4 and 5 can be made. (3+1=4, 2+2=4) The students are learning about the numbers 5 and 10 as anchor numbers. Please practice counting by 1's and 10's at home.
Writing: We are enjoying publishing our favorite story from our Narrative Writing Unit. We will start the new year writing Pattern Books. Please practice reading and writing sight words over break to help them with this unit.
Science: We will be learning about our senses and how they help us as Scientists. Student will explore how their senses work as they make different scientific discoveries, especially about the weather.
Words Their Way: We are sorting rhyming words this month. Rhyming activities will be coming home in their folders this month. Rhyme is an important skill for emergent readers.
DECEMBER WORD WALL WORDS
We will introduce the following word wall words during the month of December:
can, an, you, see , we , at, in
Please help your child practice them at home.
WINTER CLOTHES
December is here and the cold weather is here to stay! Please help your child remember to bring their snow pants, snow boots, winter coat, hat, and gloves to wear on the playground. All items should come in a separate reusable bag. If your child does not have the proper outdoor clothing they will be asked to play on the blacktop to protect them from getting their clothing wet from the snow. Thank you for your help in teaching them how to dress for the weather.
HOLIDAY PARTY
Our holiday party will be on Thursday, December 17th. It will start off in the cafeteria with an all school sing along at 1:30 followed by a party in our classroom.
Please send your child’s Gift of Reading book in if you haven't already done so. Please wrap their book and put a tag with their name on it. The children will open their books at the Holiday Party.
We wish everyone a wonderful holiday vacation! The school will be closed December 19th through January 3rd. School will resume on January 4th.
