Spring Parent Teacher Conferences Are Coming!

Dear Parent/Guardian,

In an effort to coordinate spring conferences for students who are receiving support from multiple teachers, you may receive an invitation to schedule a conference from your child's teacher the week of March 9th. By Monday, March 16th, all teachers will have emailed an invitation via a Google Doc in order to sign up for spring conferences. Conferences are scheduled to be held the afternoon and evening of Wednesday, April 1st and all day on Thursday, April 2nd.

Individual classroom teachers will email you a Google Doc indicating the conference schedule for that classroom. You will click the link contained in the email to open the document. It will show you the conference schedule for your child’s teacher(s). Once you have scheduled your appointment, if for any reason you are unable to attend your child’s conference, please communicate directly with your child’s classroom teacher to in order to reschedule.

I understand that there are some families who do not have email accounts. If you are one of these families, please inform your child’s teacher. We will then be sure to send the paper copy of the conference schedule home to you on March 16th. Also, if you wish to conference with a special subject teacher (Art, Music, PE, Spanish, Library), please contact them via email or voicemail, as they will be traveling among our buildings during conference time and will be scheduling their own appointments.

Congratulations To Our Durham Nockamixon Odyssey of the Mind Team!

The Durham Nockamixon Odyssey of the Mind team won a trip to the state finals of the international Odyssey of the Mind competition by finishing in second place in their category during the Southeast Pennsylvania regional competition on Saturday. Four of the five team members are students at the school – Owen Brandes, Trevor Johnson, Lily Proulx-Scandone, and Lindsay Ulrey. The Durham-Nockamixon team was also honored with the prestigious Ranatra-Fusca award for exceptional creativity. The award incentivizes creative and out-of-the-box thinking and problem solving. (Three of the four DN team members are also in the PAL program which, as you know, is designed to foster exactly this kind of innovative thinking.) The DN team will be competing on April 11 at the Pennsylvania state finals in Berwick, PA. The team's performance reflects well both on the school and on the PAL program, both of which deserve tremendous credit for equipping team members with the skills needed to successfully compete in this competition. Congrats!

Read Across America

On Monday, March 2nd we celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday! Every classroom enjoyed having a special guest reader visit their classroom to read a book to our students. Many thanks to our fire fighters from Ottsville Fire Company, State Police and Nurse's from Saint Luke's Hospital who took time out of their busy schedules to come and join us!

Be A Phanatic About Reading!

Students are encouraged to read for at least 15 minutes each day. Classroom teachers have been setting reading goals with their students each quarter. Collectively as a school our students have read over 2, 000 books so far this year! Way to Go, Bulldogs! As we continue to strive to keep the momentum going and pass away the last days of winter more quickly, we are encouraging our students to "think spring" as we get "Phanatic" about reading! Reading logs were sent home with students on February 27, 2015 in order for them to log their reading for the month of March. All students who turn in a log will receive a gift from the Philly Phanatic! Please stop in the office or click on the below link if you are in need of a log. Happy Reading!
