Pleasant Street School News

building a community of learners that strive for excellence

Please come to our next PTO meeting on Monday, June 1st from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in the school cafe. We will be holding our annual elections and setting some important goals for the coming year. Participation in our school PTO provides a voice for families in school activities and has an open membership. Our PTO meets for one hour per month and typically schedules a few family enrichment programs during the school year that have included a welcome back playground party, family movie night, make & take winter crafts, Feb. cake dance, and toy bingo night. Everyone is welcome and childcare is provided. We need more families to be involved in our school’s parent/teacher organization.

We are Readers! Celebrating Growth in First Grade

It has been a fantastic year as students in Mrs. Morin's class have shown wonderful growth as readers! We are excited to be concluding our first full year of implementation of the Readers' Workshop balanced literacy approach. We have gained such momentum during the school year we look forward to continuing your children's love of reading as we kick off an ambitious summer reading and book swap program. Stay tuned for more details to follow soon!!

Almost missed these exciting adventures of Pete the Cat!

There is a beautiful display in Mrs. Goldthwaite's kindergarten of the adventures Pete the Cat had with her students. Pete the Cat is a popular book series with young readers and is a recommended read for families. Students made their own Pete the Cat and then shared in pictures, cards, and in their writings of the many places Pete the Cat traveled. One student, Matthew, made a travel journal that included days of the week and places they had ventured to on each day!

Castle Project: collaborations in art and writing in Mrs. Arpide's second grade

Accompanying a unit of study in Readers Workshop on fairy tales second graders also constructed castles in art class and then wrote their own fairy tale. Super exciting! The learning was rich as students not only learned about aspects and elements of fairy tales but also design features of castles. They were very proud of their work. We invite you to click on the link below to see a short video of classmates with their projects.

Toy Bingo Night = Happy Prize Winning Children!

There was plenty of happiness for the children and families who made their way out to our PTO sponsored Toy Bingo night this past Friday. All children who participated left with multiple toy prizes. Special thanks to our PTO members: Laura Robinson, Sarah Smith, Becky Lanoue, and Becky Tower Hughes for their dedication to Pleasant Street School and their support of PTO events.

Our First Harvest!

Our preschoolers were delighted to pick veggies out of their garden as they harvested fresh lettuce and radish. Some of you may not have predicted it, but yes there were preschoolers enjoying eating radish for snack!
