Eagle Update

Off to a Great Start!

It has been a busy first couple of weeks of school as the problems that come up with new construction are getting worked out and staff are getting settled in their new spaces. It has been a challenge with buses at the end of the day due to the construction that continues on roads near Rose Glen. It does seems to get a little better each day and we really appreciate your patience and understanding. We are looking forward to the end of the road construction, but there is still more to be done! There has been a lot a great learning going on in classrooms already which will continue as everyone settles in. Hopefully you had a chance to read the grade level update for your child's grade that were sent on Friday. These are great resources that are typically sent out every other week. They list the highlights that are going on in each grade, field trips and other special events that are coming up!

New Security at Rose Glen

An important part of the remodeling done over the summer was for added security at Rose Glen and it is important that you are aware of these changes. First of all, the major change is that the front doors are now open during the school day. In the foyer there is a button you will have to press to be granted access to the office. If you volunteering in the school we will need your driver's license to run a quick background check. If approved, you will then receive a name label and then the door into the school will be unlocked for you. If you are dropping something off for your child, those items will be dropped off in the office and we will get them to the student's classrooms.


PBIS is excited to announce the addition of Student Council this year. We are looking for 4th/5th grade students to join this leadership group. Students should know and show the “Rose Glen Be Statements”. Members will be participating in community outreach programs, assisting in all-school activities, participating in school-wide initiatives and planning spirit days. Student Council will meet 1-2 times per month during lunch/recess. Our 4th/5th grade students all received an application. If interested, please return applications by Wednesday, September 18th. We look forward to an awesome year together!

Student acknowledgements:

Last year our weekly Student Eagle Awards were a great success! This year we are keeping those individual awards and adding additional recognitions for students at the class, grade and school levels.

Individual Student Awards:

Each week a teacher will do a ticket pull from the tickets her/his class earned that week. The student pulled will have his/her name read on the announcements, get their picture taken and receive an Eagle certificate.

Classroom recognition:

A “BE” statement goal will be set in art, music and phy. ed each week. Silent hallway walking and respectful behavior in the lunchroom will also be recognized. The classroom that wins the challenge in each of the five areas will have their classroom teacher’s name on the classroom recognition board and will have 4 feathers placed on their grade level eagle.

Grade Level Eagles:

To promote grade level unity, classroom feathers will be placed on grade level eagles. The grade level eagle that has the most feathers at the end of the month will earn an extra recess.

School-wide acknowledgement:

Each week all eagle tickets earned will be placed in a see-through box near the grade level eagles. An eagle’s nest with eggs will be placed on the top of the tickets. As the box fills up with eagle tickets the nest will rise. When it reaches the height of our first goal, an egg will hatch with an all-school surprise!

PBIS Communication Committee

  • The PBIS kick off was a success. We were able to get important school wide expectations shared with all of our students in a timely manner.
  • Classroom teachers were receptive and excited to kick off several “areas” of our school wide expectations during the first week of school.

Monthly goal:

  • To have consistent communication with staff to identify areas of need or concern they might have with our PBIS system.

We are all unique but together we are a MASTERPIECE!

Birthday Celebrations and Invitations


Each child at Rose Glen is a gift and their birthday is very special day! Again this year, each classroom teacher will ensure that birthdays are acknowledged and each child knows that their birthday is important and is a celebration. As we did last year, we will not have students bringing in birthday treats to the classroom. This will ensure that all children within the classroom are able to participate in the celebration and it also aligns with our district wellness guidelines and procedures. If you have any questions, then please contact the office.

Birthday Invitations

We strongly encourage families to use the online school directory (MySchoolAnywhere) to obtain information necessary to send invitations to families for student birthday parties. Invitations will not be distributed at school unless there is an invitation for the whole class. Again, the preference is for families to utilize MySchoolAnywhere to connect with other families in regards to birthday party information. Therefore, please remember to sign-up for this PTO sponsored resource to ensure that you are able to connect with other families and other families are able to connect with you!

Secure Volunteer

Parents are definitely able to help at school if they want to help out! This includes participation on field trips, helping in classroom, working in the library, and assistance with special projects, etc. A background check is required for some areas of volunteering including field trips, so if you are interested, please complete your background as soon as possible. Lost and Found

This year we will not be doing weekly Lost and Found pictures. At the end of each month we will set up a table with all the Lost and Found items, so that the students have a few days to look for their belongings. We will take a picture and send it in that week's newsletter. At the end of that week, anything remaining will be donated. Our new Lost and Found location is in the front vestibule, so parents can stop in and look for any lost items any time they realize an item is missing. Of course, having names on items helps us be able to return them quicker to the owner.

Safe Arrival Attendance System

To enhance the existing absence reporting procedure, the School District of Waukesha introduced a new, more efficient student absence reporting system called "SafeArrival" which started at Rose Glen in October of 2018. This system works in conjunction with our district messenging system (School Messenger). It reduces the time it takes to verify student attendance, makes it easier for you to report your child’s absence and makes it easier for staff to respond to unexplained student absences. We would love to have all of our families using this system by the start of school.

Pre-Excused Absences: If you know your child is going to be absent and you want to report that before the student is marked absent in school, Safe Arrival provides three convenient methods:

1. Using your mobile device, download and install the SchoolMessenger app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store (or from the links at https://go.schoolmessenger.com). The first time you use the app, select Sign Up to create your account. Select Attendance then Report an Absence.

2. Use the SafeArrival website, https://go.schoolmessenger.com. The first time you use the website, select Sign Up to create your account. Select Attendance then Report an Absence.

3. Call the toll-free number 1-866-490-7371 to report an absence using the automated phone system. These options are available 24 hours/day, 7 days a week.

Future absences can be reported at any time.

Post-Excused Absences: If you were not able to report your child’s absence in advance you will be notified by the SchoolMessenger system if your child is marked absent.

You are notified of a reported absence within minutes of the reported absence.

The School Messenger app or the website will allow families to customize where they want to receive their notifications and allow them to excuse the absence right from the notification.

If you report your child’s absence in advance using the SafeArrival toll-free number, website or mobile app, you will NOT receive these notifications.

Lunch Reminders

Hot lunches cost $2.20 and this includes the entree, sides and a milk. If a child buys an extra milk, there is a charge of .40 and any extra sides are .75 each. We have been having a problem with this because parents aren't aware that their children are taking extra milk or sides and this can add up quickly and deplete lunch money without the parent being aware. Parents have the ability to see their child's lunch account in their parent portal, so remember to check periodically so you know how much is in your child's lunch account to avoid negative balances.

Rose Glen Online Directory

Did you know that Rose Glen has an online family directory? Have you signed up yet? You decide what you want included in the directory.

Having access to this directory is a great way for you to stay connected with other school families. It also is the way that you would get contact information for your child’s classmates, including information you would need for sending out birthday invitations via email or U.S. mail. (Please remember that unless your child is inviting the entire class, party invitations may not be distributed at school.)

Another important reason you may want to be included in the directory is to give your child the opportunity to be invited to birthday parties or other gatherings with classmates, since neither the teachers nor the office staff is able to share contact information with you. Hopefully you have already signed up for the family directory. If you have not, please take a few minutes to do so.

The first PTO meeting will be on September 18th at 6:30 in the Media Center. Think about attending this first meeting to find out what PTO is all about and what they are planning for the upcoming year!

Great opportunity to get involved: PTO Treasurer

We have an immediate opening on the PTO Board for the Treasurer position. If you’ve been considering getting involved, now is your chance! The Treasurer is responsible for maintaining the budget, writing checks and reviewing expense requests. Whomever takes on this role will be greatly supported by our former Treasurer and current President, Katie Holtzen. Please consider lending your time, the commitment is a few hours a week.

Culver's Dining Night

Our first dining night of the year will be on Monday, September 23rd from 5-8 p.m. at the Culver's on Sunset. Here is a chance to take a night off from cooking and help your school! Don't forget to have some of their delicious custard for dessert too!
