FAC Summer Update #2

July 21, 2021

Good Morning, Fine Arts Center Family

We hope that your summer continues to provide you and your family with relaxation and memorable moments!

This newsletter is our second communication of the summer. Below are some new items for your review, along with reminders from our first newsletter. As always, please feel free to reach out to our Main Office with any questions. We are open from Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. (864) 355-2550.

Here is the latest from the halls of the Fine Arts Center...

FAC Student/Parent Handbook - 2021-2022 Edition

Our Student/Parent Handbook is a comprehensive document that contains policies, procedures, and guidelines that are essential to the success of the FAC student and their family. Therefore, we ask that all students and parents thoroughly review the document and complete a digital acknowledgment form prior to the start of the school year. This needs to be done by all students and parents; both new and returning.

  • New students will find this document to be extremely useful in their transition to our school.
  • Returning students will find new sections and updates to prior procedures.

The Handbook can be found at the following link - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1taYENZOyOY_NrwZRPRuV8ajvDsAObYgP/view?usp=sharing

The link to the acknowledgment form is on the cover page of the handbook, and can also be found here - https://forms.gle/hTvG1ZhbdLJSgmLo8.

Thank you in advance for the investment of your time into this process. Knowing the policies, procedures, and guidelines of the school will ensure that your child has the best possible experience at the FAC.

Sign Up For Text Messaging

The Fine Arts Center would like to reach our FAC Families via text message, sending reminders and event announcements on a weekly basis. This process can be accomplished through the GCS Parent Backpack account. Please click on the below link for instructions:

We will send our first reminder during the week of August 9.

Parking Passes

Students are now able to apply for parking spaces at the Fine Arts Center.

Important guidelines:

  • All Parking Pass applicants should read the application carefully.
  • Wade Hampton students buy parking passes from Wade Hampton High School, not from the FAC.
  • FAC assigned spaces are provided to students on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Ms. Michel will review applications and provide instructions for payment and next steps via email.

The link to the Parking Pass Application can be found here - https://forms.gle/NZDT7xXEJ8XX2FsK6.

Please reach out to Ms. Michel at nmichel@greenville.k12.sc.us, or call our Main Office at (864) 355-2550 with any questions.

First Day - August 17, 2021

We are looking forward to seeing all of our FAC students on the first day of school - Tuesday, August 17, 2021. Please note that GCS High Schools will not be scheduling any class meetings in conflict with the FAC schedule, and therefore we expect to see our students on Day One!

Please note that our building opens at 8:45 a.m. The only exceptions to this are:

  • Students who have AM classes at Wade Hampton HS and are dropping off instruments or supplies. These students may enter to complete the task and then should report to Wade Hampton HS.
  • Students who have an 8:00 a.m. Theatre Foundations or Dance Foundations class.
  • Students who have an 8:15 a.m. embedded online class.
  • Students who are in programs that offer Studio Time; these students must complete the applications and receive approval before starting Studio Time.

Should this rule cause your family hardship due to transportation to/from the FAC, please reach out to Mr. Popat at vpopat@greenville.k12.sc.us.

For PM students, the building opens at 1:00 p.m. The only exceptions to this are:

  • Students who have a 12:30 p.m. Advanced Topics in Theatre class.
  • Students who have a 12:30 p.m. embedded online class.
  • Students who are in programs that offer Studio Time; these students must complete the applications and receive approval before starting Studio Time.

Orientation for New FAC Students

The Fine Arts Center will host an orientation for students who are attending the FAC for the first time. This program will offer our new students and parents the chance to meet the Administration and Faculty, learn about important procedures that will get the year started smoothly, and become familiar with the layout of the school. 2021-22 Fine Arts Center Student Information Form

A critical task that needs to be completed by all of our students, new and returning, is the 2021-22 Fine Arts Center Student Information Form. This form allows you to provide us with the most up-to-date contact information so that our records are accurate. Such information should also be updated in Backpack by parents on an annual basis. Collecting this information via a Google Form provides us with a secondary data source to ensure that we can reach out to you.

Please click on the following link to complete the form - https://forms.gle/QckGK7Utw6kUktXZ9.

Again, we need this completed by all families. One form per student, please.

Should you be unable to access the form, or require a computer to complete this task, please reach out to our Main Office - (864) 355-2550. We can schedule an appointment for you to come to the FAC to complete this task.

The deadline to complete this task is Thursday, August 12. Thank you in advance for your help with this!

Proof of Immunization Requirements - New FAC Students who are OOD

This information is for our new FAC students who attend Private, Charter, Homeschool, and Virtual Schools. Please note that these schools are termed, "OOD," which stands for "Out of District."

Since you do not have a home school in Greenville County School District, we are required to keep an SC Certificate of Immunization on file here for you. Please note the following guidelines from the District website:

“A child cannot be admitted to any school or child development program without a valid SC Certificate of Immunization or a medical, religious, or special exemption. If your child does not have a valid certificate, take his/her shot records to your physician or the county Health Department (282-4100). A parent or adult authorized by the parent must accompany a student under 16 who requires shots. For further information, call Medical Health Services at 355-3171.”

We appreciate your cooperation with this matter. As stated above, your child cannot come to the FAC without the appropriate documentation. Please be sure to have the required paperwork turned in to the FAC by Thursday, August 12. You may either mail it to us (102 Pine Knoll Dr., Greenville, 29609) or drop it off (we are open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.).

Please contact Kathryn Rhyne at (864) 355-2556 or krhyne@greenville.k12.sc.us if you have any other questions.

Thank you!
