A Few Messages from the Nurse's Office
Individuals with Fever or Loss of Taste or Loss of Smell
Attention parents: If a member of your household experiences symptoms that are strongly associated with COVID-19 (fever > 100℉ or loss of taste or loss of smell), the Monroe County Department of Public Health has instructed school districts to presume that individual is positive and act accordingly. This means that all household members should be quarantined and school-aged students in the household should not attend school or school activities until the symptomatic individual gets tested and receives negative results. If your child develops a fever, loss of taste or loss of smell in school, your child and your other children will be sent home from school. If your child develops a fever, loss of taste or loss of smell at home, please keep your other children home and contact your child’s healthcare provider and school nurse for further guidance.
As per current protocols, if your child experiences other symptoms associated with COVID-19 (Shortness of Breath, Cough, Sore Throat, Fatigue, Nasal Congestion/Runny Nose, Nausea, Vomiting or Diarrhea, Headaches, Muscle or Body Aches) that are new, worsening or unusual for them, your child needs be evaluated by a HCP and undergo COVID-19 testing per DOH guidelines before returning to school. Asymptomatic siblings of students with these symptoms may continue to attend school unless the ill individual tests positive or develops fever, loss of smell or loss of taste.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our schools healthy and safe!
Domestic Travel Quarantine Changes
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced on March 11th that domestic travelers will no longer be required to quarantine after entering New York from another U.S. State or U.S. Territory starting April 1st. While no longer required, the NYS Department of Health still recommends quarantine after domestic travel as an added precaution. Mandatory quarantine remains in effect for international travelers. All travelers must continue to fill out the Traveler Health Form. Individuals should continue strict adherence to all safety guidelines to stop the spread such as wearing masks, socially distancing and avoiding gatherings.
Since April 1st falls during our Spring Break, how does this affect Webster staff and students who travel to another state during this time? Asymptomatic individuals who return to NYS during Spring Break after domestic travel will not need to quarantine or present proof of testing out of quarantine to the District before returning to school unless directed to do so by the DOH.
Students and staff returning to school after traveling to a non-contiguous state before March 27th, must follow the current travel advisory guidelines.
Per the NYSDOH, all individuals returning from travel must:
Continue daily symptom monitoring through Day 14; AND
Continue strict adherence to all recommended non-pharmaceutical interventions, including hand hygiene and the use of face coverings, through Day 14 (even if fully vaccinated); AND
Must immediately self-isolate if any symptoms develop and contact their healthcare provider to report this change in clinical status and determine if they should seek testing. Parents should notify their child’s school nurse.
There are no changes in requirements for individuals who develop symptoms associated with COVID-19. Symptomatic students and staff must stay home from school, seek a medical evaluation and undergo COVID-19 testing if determined to be needed by the healthcare provider in conjunction with DOH criteria. Students may not return to school until cleared by the school nurse. Staff should contact their supervisor.
