Class Placement
In April we start the process of determining class placement for the coming year. Considering your child’s learning characteristics and social interaction style, your child’s current teachers will carefully place your child in a friendly collaborative group with other children with whom he/she works well. We look for well-balanced classrooms, but also keep in mind the need to cluster some students so that their needs can be met most effectively.
For parental input in the placement process, an optional Student Information Form is posted on the Sycamore District website, click here for the form. A hard copy is also available in the office. Please return the form to the office by Friday, March 17th.
Fine Arts Fair
We hope that you can join us to enjoy some of our students' amazing art work this Saturday, March 4, at the Fine Arts Fair at Sycamore High School. The fair is open between 8:00 am and 3:30 pm. The district also has a Pancake breakfast and musical performances by our Greene, Junior High and High School bands and orchestras.
Pancake tickets cost $6 at the door, but the music and the walk through the art gallery are free!
Our talented students have worked very hard on some fabulous artwork. We hope to see you there!
Notes from our Nurse
Attention Fourth Grade Parents Hold the Date: Blue Ash Elementary will host a Growth and Development preview night on March 9, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash Elementary (UCBA) Wing. This is an information meeting for Fourth grade parents to preview materials used for 4th grade Growth and Development class. This is a parent only meeting no childcare will be provided.
Illness Reminders: If you child is ill, remember to call the school absence line at 513 686-1714. It can be difficult to decide when and how long to keep an ill child home from school. The timing of the absences is often important in order to decrease the spread of disease to others.
If your child has a fever, is vomiting or has diarrhea they must stay home until they no longer have the symptom for 24 hours without the use of medication to control the symptoms.
Check our school illness guidelines at http://www.sycamoreschools.org/Page/2309 .The school district health handbook has more information and found on the district website at http://www.sycamoreschools.org/Page/2268 .
Please contact our School Nurse, Mrs. Wyrick, RN at 513-686-1713 or wyrickd@sycamoreschools.org if you have any questions.
Lunch Food Tasting for First and Third Grade Lunch: Many thanks to the Blue Ash Wellness Team, Parent Volunteers and Traders Joe for our successful food tasting. On March 2, 2017 First and Third grade lunch had an opportunity to participate in a food tasting and meet “Wart” the tree frog mascot from Trader Joe’s.

Camp Invention is coming to Sycamore Community School District!
Since 1990, Camp Invention has taken summer fun and transformed it from ordinary to extraordinary!
In partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame, Edwin H. Greene Intermediate School is pleased to offer the nationally-acclaimed Camp Invention program to children entering grades 1st-6th. It’s an exciting, weeklong summer adventure with lessons that explore connections between science, technology, engineering and innovation. Children will work together to seek solutions to real-world problems and sharpen critical 21st century learning skills while rotating through several fascinating modules. The week begins on June 5, 2017 with Chris Gutermuth serving as Director of the Launch program!
Here is how young innovators will be spending their time:
Engaging creative thinking to design and build their own duct tape creations
Experiencing the power of rocket science by building and launching rubber band rockets
Exploring aerodynamics to blast water rockets made from plastic bottles more than 50 feet in the air
Taking apart nonworking machines and devices to investigate their inner operations
All activities give participants the opportunity to explore, discover and achieve while having fun!
Local educators will facilitate program modules and enthusiastic high school students will serve as Leadership Interns ensuring that one program team member is in place for every eight children.
Register on or before March 20, 2017 using promo code Discover25 to receive $25 OFF the base price of $225. Every registration includes a complimentary Camp Invention t-shirt. Availability is limited, so visit www.campinvention.org or call 800.968.4332 to secure your child’s spot today!
