Updates from Crystal
- Picture day is tomorrow, it is also the day to wear our "One Team, One Dream" shirts. We will move this day to next Thursday...so you can wear jeans and OTOD shirts next Thursday instead.
- Click here to access the Canvas page that includes the Bridges Curriculum.
- Here is a Math Rubric that Catherine shared in GLPM's on Monday. This is a great way to hold students accountable during station tasks. I added this link to Canvas under Resources as well.
- Last Wednesday, only 16 students were absent! Our building attendance was 95.76%! Thank you for promoting attendance in your classrooms!
- The PTA Paypal link is active on the PTA Website. Please include the link in newsletters so parents can order online. The deadline for orders is this Friday.
- Please don't forget to put an A by students who are absent on your clipboards. Also, don't forget to take the clipboards to specials each day. To clarify-if there is a note next to a child's name, this is only for your documentation and information. Specialty teachers will take care of discipline/consequences while they are in specials (including parent phone calls). If you are also having problems with a student this is great data to include when meeting with parents (____Is also having problems in Art and Music...etc.).
- Please make sure you arrive to specials and to lunch recess on time to get your students. We have had a ton of discipline during after lunch recess-when reviewing camera's it was noted that students were lined up for 4 minutes. 4 minutes in line is way too long. Transition times are tough for all students-arriving to pick up kids on time will help this. Mondays are 100% my fault. I will make sure I end our meetings 5 minutes early to provide time to pick up students from specials. I'm guilty. I will do better.
- If you are scheduling or booking a field trip, please don't forget to complete this form for Bri. Thank you!

Certify SPS Opportunity
Digital natives enter our classrooms every day. While they know how to use various types of technology and social media, they often lack the understanding of why being a responsible and safe digital citizen is a must and how to achieve that goal. Educators are best positioned to prepare students to thrive in the digital world. Because of this pressing need for our students, the Blended Learning Department is excited to offer a #CertifySPS strand to teachers within our district. The flipped learning of #CertifySPS allows teachers to prioritize their learning based upon their needs regarding time, pace, and location. Consisting of three two-month modules, the Digital Citizenship #CertifySPS strand focuses on three ideas--understanding what DC is and the resources currently available within Canvas, implementing device management strategies and tools into teacher’s classrooms, and growing personally as an educator and leader in the building for digital citizenship. Since there are only 40 spots available, the first 40 teachers to sign up will be enrolled in the learning. Final notification of participation will be sent out on Friday. Please use the sign-up below to express your interest. Thank you!
Pick A Project Grant Opportunity
The Foundation for SPS’s Pick-a-Project online fundraising program is now open for applications and donations.
Last year, through the help of our FSPS donors and community, the Pick-a-Project program was able to help fund 39 projects totaling more than $14,000.
Here’s the scoop:
· The Pick-a-Project application is now online and open. SPS educators may submit their projects at: https://www.supportsps.org/pick-project-new/
· The monetary limit per Pick-a-Project is $1,000.
· Educators may submit more than one Pick-a-Project during the course of the school year. It would be advisable to only have one project posted at a time so that you can do your best to promote it to your network and school partners.
· Pick-a-Projects will be posted for viewing and sharing on our website and social media beginning October 1 – TODAY! Here’s the link: https://www.supportsps.org/pick-a-project-2/
· Once a project is posted, we will help promote it on our social media channels – Facebook, Twitter and Instagram - and will ask that you promote it as well. You’ll be sent tips for sharing along with a flyer template that you can use.
· Pick-a-Projects will stay online for 40 days or until they are fully funded, whichever comes first. The program will be open for applications through mid-April of 2019.
Thank you again for your commitment to our SPS students and your great work to make their education experiences the best possible.
Please let me know if you have any questions about either program or if there is any way that the Foundation for SPS can be of assistance to you.

Principals and Counselors:
DiVentures offers school and camp presentations for all ages. These are available to local organizations and schools at no charge. We are so passionate about swimming, aquatics and the underwater world, and we’re always thrilled to share our knowledge and passion with others. Our swimming and water safety demonstrations are perfect for kids in preschool through second grade. These presentations feature a book read with Josh the Otter! The book goes over basic water safety skills and teaches children to never go near the water alone. We bring a large otter mascot with us and the kids learn a fun song and dance at the end. For more information on Josh the Otter and the Joshua Collingsworth Memorial, visit www.joshuamemorial.org.
Our scuba diving presentation topics depend on the age of the students. We can focus on marine biology, oceanography, places to dive and basic geography, the physics behind scuba diving, careers within the scuba industry, certification requirements, how diving equipment functions, etc. If you want your presentation tailored to a specific topic just let us know!
We will happily present on scuba diving or swimming and water safety to any school group. We generally recommend swimming and water safety presentations for kids in preschool through second grade. Our scuba diving presentations are fun and informative for grades three through twelve. Any presentation could be between 20-45 minutes, but we can be flexible.
Please contact to schedule an event at your school soon!

Erin White
