Planning Ahead
Mr. Skipper dot Com
What's next?
I don't know that y'all are sitting around monitoring what's going on in town and the country, but if so, you're probably wondering what's next with school, right?
I suspect GPISD will follow what the districts around them are doing to an extent.
I saw that some schools are delivering food to the students, some are arranging for students to check out Chromebooks, a lot of schools (perhaps mostly colleges) are arranging for classes to continue online.
Right now, I know that the school is going through a deep cleaning and sanitizing. When we return, there will be lots of hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes on hand. After each class, I'm going to wipe down the computer keyboards and screens, and the desks. It's better to be safe than sorry, right? (That's twice I've ended a sentence with "right?".)
What will happen for WAMS and GPISD? We just have to stay tuned.
I'm not going to offer any advice except stay healthy. Just like with the flu, wash your hands, eat, drink plenty of fluids, get plenty of sleep, exercise... Luckily, you're young and strong.
Here's a link to the Center for Disease Control where you can read what the experts have to say.
Course Work for 4th Nine Weeks
Encounters 6-8
Mr. Seibert sent out a text to all of the Encounters teachers asking how we thought you, the students, would do missing a week of school (regarding the Challenge of the Mind projects). There were different responses, but I said we'd be fine. In fact, I said, with a week away from school, everyone should be able to get their papers completely finished. (Then when we return, we can focus on the cars and masks.)I'll be going through the research papers starting on Saturday, March 14 (or Sunday or Monday), leaving comments on what needs to be done to get them finished, including the poems.
I will also be updating everything in the grade book; make sure you finish any outstanding work, particularly from the text book or ThinkCERCA.
Since we don't know what's going to happen, it's MUCH better to have everything finished now, so you don't have to worry about it when we get back. (Remember, this extra week off is the end of the 3rd Nine Weeks, and since half of it was reserved for testing, all of our due dates have passed, except for the final report being due on the 20th.)
Again, we don't know how long we'll be out of school. If it goes beyond this next week, don't worry; I've already activated the following readings in the textbook/ ThinkCERCA. If you've finished your research project and you're bored (or want to get ahead), you can start these assignments:
Encounters 6
- Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry
- A Poem for My Librarian
- Warriors Don't Cry
- We're on the Same Team
Encounters 7
- Cellphone Medical Test
- Iraq's Empty Boots
- The Tell-Tale Heart
Encounters 8
- Muslim Children Join Their Parents in Fasting
- I Use a Wheelchair
- First Encounters with Racism
English 8
Okay, so about half of you don't have a research project to worry about, but here are the readings for the 4th Nine Weeks. If you find yourself turning in assignments late all of the time, here's a chance to get ahead.
- Speech to the Ohio Women's Conference: Ain't I a Woman
- Gaming Communities
- Letters of a Civil War Nurse
- It Ain't Braggin' If It's True
