Happy Friday, Lil Steamer Families!

Lil Steamer Families –
I’d like to share a couple quick stories and pose a self-reflection question for you all.
As children, there are moments and experiences that stick with us well into adulthood. Sometimes they come from traumatic experiences.
I vividly remember crashing my bike, hitting my head, crying while running home, and seeing the shock on my mother’s face when she saw her (favorite!) child bleeding.
Yikes, right? But there are plenty of moments and experiences that I look back on that I cherish as well.
There were times where I got to help mom make homemade noodles as she made creamed chicken and noodles for the family. I don’t know why that memory sticks with me, but it does.
I think it is because the process was much different than all of the others. We had flour all over the dining room table, we got our hands messy making the noodles, and I got to be in charge of cutting them to the appropriate size.
Impactful memories do not require fancy places or a lot of money.
What could you do to create more memories with your child(ren)? Think back on your own experiences - the ones you remember fondly - and think about how you could find more ways to create those positive experiences that will last a lifetime.
Warm Regards,
JAGH

From the desk of: School Counselor Mrs. Meumann
FES students will be seeing a new face in my office! Ms. Brzezinski, who teaches at FHS, is also a graduate student at Western Illinois University-QC currently studying school counseling. Ms. B. will be at FES several days a week to observe and practice counseling students. I may be in touch with you regarding Ms. B. and having her work with your child this semester. If you agree to Ms. Brzezinski working with your child, there is a parent/guardian consent form that must be completed and returned to the school as soon as possible. Due to Ms. Brzezinski being a counselor in training, she may not begin working with your child until this form is returned. Thank you for your help!
We look forward to the Great Kindness Challenge next week. I encourage our students to complete the checklists of kind acts that they will receive on Monday. Students will have the opportunity to repeat kind act after kind act. The Great Kindness Challenge helps to make our schools and communities kinder and more compassionate places for everyone. Students learn that kindness matters by completing tasks such as giving compliments or drawing a picture and giving it to someone. We will have dress up days to help them get in the spirit of kindness.
Monday-Dream of Kindness-Wear pajamas.
Tuesday-Crazy For Kindness-Wear crazy socks or a crazy hairdo
Wednesday-Work out problems with kindness-Wear workout clothes.
Thursday-Say Yee-Haw for Kindness-Dress in western wear including boots, jeans, bandanas, and plaid shirts.
Friday-Share the school spirit of kindness-Wear your favorite Steamer shirt or red and black.
LRC Happenings
The LRC was also gifted a fish tank from Mr. Dail! We now have 2 goldfish named Wilbur, Charlotte and from the story Charlotte's Web.
1A students enjoyed completing a giant floor puzzle.
We hope the students are enjoying all the decorations and things going on in the LRC. Please keep reading and filling out those reading slips so we can reach our goal of reading 100,000 minutes this month.

Cozy Cave Day in 2B
Students in 2B had a great time celebrating Cozy Cave Day! The students finished a unit on learning about polar bears, including researching facts about these amazing mammals! The students dressed in white today, brought “white” snacks, flashlights and blankets. They read in “dens” with flashlights under their desks, made polar bear dens with different size marshmallows and toothpicks, took their spelling test with snow writing, ate a special polar bear treat, and ended the day with making gingerbread houses. It was a busy day, but certainly a fun one!
Gingerbread Houses in 2C!
In addition to our Cozy Cave Day, we made gingerbread houses! Shout out to all the parents who sent in various supplies to make them! I appreciate your generous donations! They had a great time creating their houses and eating the supplies! They turned out great and they were very "sweet" to one another as they checked out the creations by their classmates!
