The World's Dispare

Everything We Once Knew, Gone in the Blink of an Eye

"I wish I wasn't afraid all the time but... I am"

Being Afraid

"I wish I wasn't afraid all the time but... I am"

Evey says this to V after being released from the prison in which V kept her. After basically having her identity and self worth striped from her she makes this quote. Her and V are standing on the roof in the rain. During her imprisonment she came to realize there no longer was anything to be afraid of. She would much rather die than live in the world that was becoming.

This relates to the topic of dystopia because in Evey's mind she is living in a destructive, depressing world. Evey being afraid of government and the control they have on the public has created a dystopian world for her causing the impact of fear. It especially relates to the movies' environment and in some ways our society. Although the U.S may have circumstance better than most, in some areas all there is is a sense of depression. Poverty or abusive homes are great examples of a dystopian environment.

It Starts

The dinging of the bell means it's time to start the day

Five minutes then you're faced with h***

Lectures arise and notes begin

A waste of paper and materials you'll never look at again

Friends scattered throughout the halls making the infamous lions tribe

Black and blue line the walls

Frowns frame our faces, 8more hours

A thirty minute break then it starts again

Vending machines lined with sugary salty delight

No food allowed policy, into the trash it's thrown

Too focused on football and sports to notice anything at all

Gothic tones suppress the voices, 8 hours left

Attendance mandatory or consequences enforced

AWOL the only escape until the final ding

The World We Live In

The world, a. place made up of several groups, stereotypes, and characters hanging facades to hide the troubles of closed doors. Smiles line the faces of adults and children but abuse and depression await their arrival. The world something we made up and created to be equal only to be the opposite. People of different classes forced into poverty and shelters, while those with houses and cars live peacefully. A world and place praised upon to be a dream, but another day in paradise could just simply mean sleeping in the rain on the side while other warms themselves on a couch in front of this evenings show. We thrive to make a living wearing our Taylor made suits and alligator boots and the guy next to you struggles for a mean and is turned away because his appearance is too horrid to look at. We live in neighbor hoods where Caucasians hate the Africans, where Latinos hate the other. No one can say why exactly we act in such ways but we do. Hate no longer a word to describe a feeling but instead drives people to hurt and murder complete strangers. Books written long ago for example 1984 only show how we live today. We don't live in the are of flying cars and action less closets, we live in the world of government invasion and discrimination. A government we should trust and be able to know we're in good hands. They only want to shutdown, take from the poor, and track and listen to the calls everyone makes. This world we live in to be equal is a fake. A family with a new porche and nice house lives next to a family with a beat up Volvo makes the Volvo family out to be the outcast. No difference in the inner make up and appearance but the outer surface shows a less fortunate family. Maybe the less fortunate family is just trying to save a penny and save for college and not struggle. Counties all over the country separate the poor into poverty and cities with others alike them. The world we live in is hideous and depressing but we thrive to make it better. When making things better is anything less of a failure we turn to drugs or alcohol and a momentanious solution becomes a life time of make ups and apologies. No one could've guess our world would've concluded in such despair but we have. The only solution to our dystopian ways is to work together and strive on. This world not perfect by any means but if we come to get her, make a few changes, we could become happier and more united.

Stop Hating

Wednesday, Jan. 15th, 11am

962 Davidson Court Aldredger, Georgia 30004

Have you been bullied? Physically or emotionally the impact is just as great. Are you tired of seeing the suicide rates go up for teens? Schools aren't getting together to do anything, its the job of parents and concerned families to help. Her we will listen to victims who have lived through their bullying. We will also hear from the parents of victims who found their trama to be too much. Bully impacts many Americans today and the only way to help lower bullying rates and ultimately exstinguish bullying is to come together and fight as one.

Theme Song

Dead star shine
Light up the sky
I'm all out of breath
My walls are closing in
Days go by
Give me a sign
Come back to the end
The shepherd

I can feel you falling away

No longer the lost
No longer the same
And I can see you starting to break
I'll keep you alive
If you show me the way
Forever - and ever
The scars will remain
I'm falling apart
Leave me here forever in the dark

Daylight dies
Blackout the sky
Does anyone care?
Is anybody there?
Take this life
Empty inside
I'm already dead
I'll rise to fall again

I can feel you falling away
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsty.com/breaking-benjamin-give-me-a-sign-lyrics.html ]
No longer the lost
No longer the same
And I can see you starting to break
I'll keep you alive
If you show me the way
If you show me the way
Forever - and ever
The scars will remain
I'm falling apart
Leave me here forever in the dark

God help me I've come undone
Out of the light of the sun
God help me I've come undone
Out of the light of the sun

I can feel you falling away

No longer the lost
No longer the same
And I can see you starting to break
I'll keep you alive
If you show me the way
Forever - and ever
The scars will remain

Give me a sign
There's something buried in the words
Give me a sign
Your tears are adding to the flood
Just give me a sign
There's something buried in the words
Give me a sign
Your tears are adding to the flood
Just give me a sign
There's something buried in the words
Give me a sign
Your tears are adding to the flood

Forever - and ever
The scars will remain

This song illistrates the book to me. The song is saddening and full of dystopian emotions. In the entire book Winston will make comments about once you defeat the Big Brother. THis is almost the same as saying 'No longer the lost, No longer the same' Breaking free from Big Brother means you have gained and earned your complete freedom. The songs reminds me mainly of when Winston and Julia are captured. When they're captured they promisethey'll never betray one another and the song is saying 'I'm already dead, I'll rise to fall again'. When you say your not going to betray your partner, in 1984 you basically are submitting yourself to death. I found that this song could ultimately be the theme for this book. Although in some ways there were good moments in the book, all those moments were ultimately hidden by fear. In Give Me a Sign, theres a few moments of reliefe and happiness, if you will, but the ultimate feel is dystopian.

Dystopian Social Networking

In my opinion Twitter is completely dystopian like. On this website the orginal purpose was for sharing your exact location or activity at any given time. Over time this has evolved into a place where people can say exactly what they want to whom they want in either a direct or indirect mannor. If teens and adults used Twitter for what it was made for I couldn't make much of an arguement for a dystopian concept, although it does seem like twitter is only used for stalking purposes. Twitter now is associated with bullying and targeting people. Bullying and targeting people can cause a seemingly happy individual into a dark, depressed person.

Having said this, this is the exact reason why social networking is dystopian. Having a program where you no longer have to be face-to-face ti threaten someone is making the work completely corrupt. Twitter is different from other networking sites like Instagram because on those users can simply be blocked and forgot. Twitter people gang up on others creating a one-on-one bullying attempt into a gang of accusations and terror.

Society's Trends

In today's society I think a good example of a dystopian group would be of the emo/gothic clique. Those who participate in the emo scene dress mainly in black listening to screamo, depressing music. Usually within a group at least one participates in self harm to release their 'stress'. In my honest opinion this is an example of a dystopian society. People who surround themselves with others of only dwelling manners are setting themselves up for destruction. They set themselves up for a world of depressing hatred. Although this is merely only my opinion most would agree. In many cases there is one individual who dominates the group creating a cult like feel to the clique. Complete and utter dystopian behaviors.
