"Skyscraper" is a song performed by Demi Lovato. The song was released on July 12, 2011. Skyscraper was the lead single in her third album, Unbroken. The inspiration to this song was a picture of the world in ruins, with one single skyscraper still standing. When the song was being recorded, Demi was very emotional which triggered outbursts and caused her to start crying. In November of 2010, she entered a treatment facility to deal with her personal hardships. After completing her treatment and leaving the facility (late January 2011), Demi re-recorded the song, but she kept the original version because she says it was symbolic to her. According to the artist, the song represents the journey she had been on the previous year. Demi felt both she and her fans could relate to it. The lyrics talk about staying strong and believing in yourself.
The song debuted at number ten on the Billboard Hot 100, spending a total of 17 weeks on the chart. Skyscraper sold 176,000 digital downloads in just the first week (In the USA) This was a sales record for Demi. The song was popular all around the world, the song reached the top 20 in Canada, New Zealand and the United States.
Demetria Devonne Lovato (Demi Lovato) was born on August 20th, 1992. She first started as a child actress in the show Barney and Friends. In 2008 she shot the Disney Channel movie, Camp Rock . A year later she received her own television show on Disney Channel called Sonny With a Chance. Her first album Don’t Forget was released in September 2008, her second album Here we Go Again in July 2009, and her third album Unbrokenwas out in 2011.
