Friday March 27, 2020
Hello, Mustangs!
I have tried to leave the lines of communication open for teachers since I sent the initial link for distance learning experiences and special events for this week. We needed for the teachers to develop a norm for their communications with you and your children. Please know that this does not mean that I am not present and open to problem solving or celebrating. Teachers are quickly including the assistant principals and myself in supporting you and our students. I am very aware of how emails can be overwhelming so trying to be mindful of this in helping you and our teachers.
I must celebrate you and our teachers for embracing the ambiguity as we worked through and continue to develop new routines. A HUGE shout out to our entire Midway family and community!!!
What an awesome job of celebrating our children and their uniqueness on Friday and Saturday as we celebrated World Down Syndrome Day on March 21, 2020! I was so proud of the many celebrations of our students!! Teachers and parents reached out with photos and videos via email, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. We definitely had a social media blitz in this celebration!!! Thank YOU for supporting us in this effort!
While we had to cancel school gatherings we are continuing with our celebrations that promote causes! We supported our Student Relay for Life Team by sporting sunglasses on Wednesday. This maintains our awareness of supporting the fight against cancer. Today, Friday, we sported our spirit wear! Felt odd not have a Chick-fil-a Biscuit but I bet many of you had something special such as pancakes or waffles!!!
Please know that we are here for you! If you are stressed by figuring out priorities in this new home schooling situation, just stick to the packet and deep breath. We have become very aware of competing needs of all family members for the family device(s).
Together, we will bring success to all Mustangs, young and old!! Bless each of you as we go through this trying time but know we love and miss you all!! Please, please let us know if there is undo emotional stress as while we are all ready to support, our School Counselors are awesome and ready to support and share resources. We know that this is not easy for all!
Blessings to each of you,
Jan Fickling, Principal
