SMS Jag E-News

December 6, 2020

Hey Jags,

If you haven't already seen the masterpiece that was created for our school, be sure to check out the video below to see the amazing, new mural in our gym. We want to give a big shoutout to our PTO and parents for making this happen. Next week we will add one more mural to the curved wall near our counseling office as we continue to build school spirit and motivate and inspire students. You can still be a part of this and other projects by donating to our annual SMS PTO Cash Drive. We would also love to have you attend the monthly PTO meeting this Wednesday at 6:00pm.

This week, our Student Council is hosting a food drive to gather non-perishable food items that will be donated to help those in need. We are very proud of our StuCo leaders for initiating this project and helping those that our hungry in our community; they are representing what it means to be servant leaders and compassionate citizens. All items can be dropped off to the bins at the entrance of our school.

As a reminder, please be mindful of our community business neighbors during school arrival and dismissal. Please leave room for traffic entering and exiting their parking lots. We appreciate your help with this and we are looking forward to another great week!

With Jag Pride,

Cholly Oglesby

Gifted & Talented Updates

TPSP Project Selection

During the 2020-2021 school year, all identified GT students are encouraged to engage in a Texas Performance Standards Project within one of their identified subjects. Students will have a chance to engage in their project through classroom curriculum and independent work before it is showcased at the end of the school year. Parents and students are encouraged to review the TPSP Blueprints to review the options and then make a selection using this form. Only students will have access to this form and should complete the form by Monday, December 14. Please email with questions.

GT Family Series Challenge

This month families of gifted students (K-12) will have the opportunity to capture the historic year of 2020 by building time capsules. Time capsules help students think critically by understanding the nature of events and relationships during a particular moment in time. Use your creativity to build an elaborate or simple time capsule to preserve memories of the year 2020! Registration is December 7th-11th. Click here to register or visit the FBISD GT Website for more information.

Jaguar Athletics

The FBISD Athletics Department and District campus athletics coordinators continue working to provide a safe environment for our student athletes this school year. In preparation for successful basketball, track, tennis and soccer seasons, parents are asked to ensure that their students’ Pre-Participation Physical Exam form and Rank One electronic forms are submitted to their campus head coach by the dates listed below in order to be eligible to participate in the first day of tryouts. Visit the FBISD Athletics webpage to learn more about the District’s health and safety protocols. Be sure to check out the Boys' & Girls' Athletics Newsletters for the most current information about games, tickets, tryouts, and character education videos.
